The Orthodox Union West Coast Region will host its annual OU West Coast Under the Stars Banquet Tuesday evening, June 21 at the Beverly Hills Marriott. This year’s event will celebrate OU West Coast’s distinguished guests of honor: Dr. Steven Tabak, Current President of OU West Coast, with the Keter Shem Tov Award; Brian Keyes, General Manager at the Beverly Hills Marriott, with the Community Leadership Award; and Sholom Chapels Mortuary for the Community Service Award.
The event will also feature an installation ceremony welcoming the new OU West Coast President Scott Krieger.
The Beverly Hills Marriott is located at 1150 South Beverly Drive. A Chinese auction to benefit OU-JLIC at UCLA Hillel at 5:45 pm will take place at the hotel.
Originally a native of the East Coast, Scott Krieger has been a force in the Los Angeles community from the moment he and his wife Aviva settled there. They are parents to Gabriela, Rena, Doni and Nava. An accountant, Mr. Krieger is involved in real estate as the Chief Operating Officer for the Arba Group since 1993.
He has taken a variety of leadership roles in many community organizations as well as several OU departments, serving on the OU board; as OU West Coast treasurer from 1990-1995; as president of Yachad; and as a longtime supporter of NCSY. Scott and Aviva were OU West Coast honorees in 2014 and the OU West Coast presidency is a natural extension of the support he has given to the organization over the years.
Rabbi Alan Kalinsky, Director of OU West Coast, congratulated the newly inducted president and the evening’s honorees.
Rabbi Kalinsky shared, “Scott Krieger has been keenly involved in the Jewish community for over two decades. His assuming the Presidency of the OU West Coast is indicative of his leadership qualities and his desire to make a difference. His can do attitude will inspire many of his friends and peers to get involved in the OU.”
Dr. Steven Tabak is a practicing cardiologist and the Medical Director of Quality and Outreach in the Cedar Sinai’s Hospital’s Heart Institute. In 2011 he ascended to the presidency of OU West Coast. His Jewish community work includes his lay leadership at Shalhevet High School and serving as Past President and currently First Vice President of Beth Jacob Congregation in Beverly Hills. Dr. Tabak and his wife Linda have three married children and reside in Los Angeles.
“Dr. Tabak has been actively involved in the Los Angeles Jewish community for many decades. His leadership has been an impactful guiding force for all OU West Coast regional activities.”
Rabbi Kalinsky continued, “The management of the Beverly Hills Marriott has been accommodating and supportive of OU West Coast for more than 30 years. For more than 20 years the annual OU West Coast Convention has taken place at the hotel. Periodically, the Orthodox Union has been invited to provide service training for the hotel staff so they may better understand the religious needs of their Orthodox Jewish clientele.”
“Sholom Chapels Mortuary has been serving the Jewish community in the greater Los Angeles and Sylmar areas for more than 50 years. Under their current leadership with Rabbi Samuel Chmelnicki as President, Judy Eideles as CEO and Moe Goldsman as Manager, the services are offered with dignity and care.”
