Manhattan BP Stringer to Sponsor OU Virtual Job Fair II, August 29

25 Jul 2007

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer along with Queens Assemblyman Rory Lancman (25th AD) have lent the prestige of their offices to attract employers and to publicize the Orthodox Union’s Virtual Job Fair II, for the unemployed and those seeking better positions.

Virtual Job Fair II will be held on Wednesday, August 29 at OU Headquarters in Manhattan, free of charge to employment candidates and employers. It follows the initial Virtual Job Fair held in June, at which 35 people obtained jobs, 20 on the spot. Employers who have already signed up include AXA Financial, Ohel Bais Ezra, Jamaica Hospital, and many more. Sponsors such as IDT, and myresumeexperts.com lend additional credence and support to VJF II.

On the day of the Fair, job candidates will be interviewed via video conference with HR personnel in their offices. HR professionals who prefer to screen applicants in person will come to the OU and conduct their interviews live.

The OU has scheduled the Fair prior to the High Holy Days to benefit those who want to obtain employment or better positions before Rosh Hashanah (September 13 and 14). “There will be no better way to start the New Year than with a new job,” declared Michael Rosner, OU Job Board Director.

“By forging an alliance with Borough President Stringer and Assemblyman Lancman, the OU hopes to attract employers who may not be aware of what we do,” declared Mr. Rosner. “The presence and support of Mr. Stringer and Mr. Lancman will enhance the OU’s reputation as a leading community social service provider in New York City.”

Like the first, Virtual Job Fair II combines state-of-the-art technology with human resources practices to assist the unemployed and under-employed in the Jewish community in the New York and Tri-State areas in finding meaningful work. Already, there are more job candidates and employers signed up for the Fair than for the first one.

The Virtual Job Fair is a project of the OU’s national Job Board, www.ou.ourg/jobs, on which candidates post their resumes. In order to ensure that each candidate is a true match for the job being offered, the OU combs each resume to find experiences and qualifications that fit employers’ needs. The OU shares eligible resumes with employers who will have the time to carefully review them before the interviews.

“In Judaism, the highest level of tzedakah (charity) is enabling the recipient to become self-reliant, for example by helping him get a job. This is the goal of our Job Fair. We are delighted that Mr. Stringer and Mr. Lancman share our goals,” declared Mr. Rosner.
