Calling All Singles: The OU Announces Four Singles Connection Events in May and June

27 Apr 2007

Singles, worry no longer– the Orthodox Union’s Department of Community Services has announced four Singles Connection events in May and June. They span various interests from an enlightening seminar on time management, to a humorous art show, to a night of improvisational comedy, as well as a summer concert and dinner. All events provide opportunities for singles to meet, mingle, and have a good time.

The first event, Time Management: Managing Time and Having Fun, will take place at Congregation Ohav Sholom, on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. Alexis Berkowitz, LMSW and Consultant for Jewish Connections/Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services (JBFCS), will speak about using time management skills to improve quality of life. This is a program for singles who have too much to do and not enough time to do it; who need to learn how to prioritize and be more in control; and want to finish tasks faster so they can enjoy additional free time. The event costs $10 at the door and includes light refreshments.

The next event is an Instant Art Performance by Morris Katz, which will take place at the Fifth Avenue Synagogue, Thursday, May 31, 7:00 p.m. Katz holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the fastest artist in the world. He is also recognized as creating more paintings than any other artist in history. Everyone will take home a painting as a souvenir after attending this performance. The $20 admission at the door includes the painting and light refreshments.

June brings with it laughs at Comedy City: A Night of Improvisational Comedy. It will take place at West Side Institutional Synagogue on Thursday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m. The Shomer Shabbat comedy troupe IMPROVODOX develops hilarious sketches on the spot that are based on the audience’s suggestions. Its interpretation of Jewish and secular themes will leave the audience rolling in the aisles. The $10 admission at the door includes light refreshments.

The last of the four singles events is Summer in the City: Noah Solomon and Friends in Concert. Held at the Edmund J. Safra Synagogue on Thursday June 21, this event will include a buffet dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starting at 7:00 p.m. Noah Solomon, of the group Soulfarm, will connect singles to their roots while they make new friends and go back for seconds at the buffet table. This event costs $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
