OU PRESS SET TO PUBLISH BIRKON MESORAT HARAV,COMPANION VOLUME FOR BLESSINGS AND RITUALS OF SHABBAT, YOM TOV, SPECIAL OCCASIONS AND EVERY DAY

OU Press announces the publication of the Birkon Mesorat HaRav: The Wintman Edition, edited by Rabbi David Hellman and published in conjunction with Koren Publishers Jerusalem.

The Birkon Mesorat HaRav is a singular companion for the blessings and rituals of Shabbat and Yom Tov, special occasions and every day.

The Birkon contains the inimitable commentary of the Rav, Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, on a wide array of topics—from candle lighting and Kiddush to zemirot and Havdala., as well as the wedding ceremony, Sheva Berakhot,Brit Milah and much more.

Rabbi Hellman has skillfully assembled the Rav’s thought on these topics from a diverse collection of sources to form a running commentary on the Birkon. The Birkon also contains sections of Reshimot and Hanhagot, which record in-depth halachic explanations and the Rav’s personal practices, compiled in consultation with those who knew him firsthand to ensure their accuracy. In addition, the Birkon includes three essays on the Rav’s conceptual understanding of Birkat HaMazonZimmun, and Kiddush—areas in which the Rav’s major contributions require a full-length treatment.

The Birkon was dedicated by Kenny Wintman and Sandy Wintman Welkes in memory of their parents, Abraham and Sylvia Wintman of the Boston Jewish community, and in honor of the Wintman Family’s close relationship with the Rav over many years.

OU Press, the publishing division of the Orthodox Union, is committed to making the teachings of Rabbi Soloveitchik available to the wider public. Following upon the success of the Mesorat HaRav volumes of the KinotSiddur, and Chumash, the Birkon Mesorat HaRav is yet another outstanding addition to the library of the Rav’s masterful works.
