A Very Special Shabbat at the White Shul: OU’s Rabbi Weinreb Celebrates Israel’s 60th Anniversary

A VERY SPECIAL SHABBAT AT THE WHITE SHUL: OU’S RABBI WEINREB TO SERVE AS SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE IN CELEBRATION OF
ISRAEL’S 60TH ANNIVERSARY, MAY 9-10

Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb will be scholar-in-residence as Congregation Kneseth Israel, the White Shul in Far Rockaway, observes Yom Ha’Atzmaut Shabbos, Parshat Emor, May 9-10, corresponding to the Fifth of Iyar, in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the State of Israel.

The OU has called on all of its member congregations across North America to create special programming for this extraordinary Shabbat. Yom Ha’Atzmaut falls this year on Thursday, May 8, the Third of Iyar.

“During his long, distinguished communal and rabbinic career, Rabbi Weinreb has advocated on behalf of Eretz Yisrael in major government bodies, both in the United States and in Israel, and he has demonstrated his deep love and devotion to Eretz Yisrael in all its multi-faceted experiences. We are very excited to greet him as he joins us for Shabbat in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the creation of Medinat Eretz Yisrael,” declared Marah D’Asrah Rabbi Tzvi Flaum.

Rabbi Weinreb will speak three times:

• Friday evening at 9:00 he will lecture on “How Would Rav Kook z”tl Celebrate Yom Ha’Atzmaut This Year?: The Essence of Religious Zionism.”

• Shabbat morning following Musaf, he will deliver the drasha: “The Unique Perspective of HaRav Issachar Teichtal z”tl Regarding the Establishment of The State of Israel: The Response of Worldwide Orthodox Jewry to this Historic Event.”

• At Seudah Shelishit at 7:30 p.m. he will speak on “The Distinct Hashkafic Approach of the Great European Chassidic Masters to the Creation of the State of Israel: The Realization of Events Leading up to the Footsteps of the Messiah and the Redemption.”

The shul invites men, women and young people to hear Rabbi Weinreb speak.
