The OU recognizes that as the generation of baby boomers leave their professional responsibilities, they seek spiritual, educational, physical, and intellectual stimulation. The OU created SPIRIT (the Stimulating Program Initiative for Retirees that Inspires Thought) attracts Retirees, Not-Yet-Retirees, Baby Boomers, Empty Nesters, Sandwich Generation People, and Seniors. SPIRIT presents on-line programming for the +60 demographic that is viewed by people internationally.
In addition to the continuing on-line global programming, SPIRIT is encouraging in-person programming on the local level. The Orthodox Union SPIRIT Initiative is happy to announce that it will be creating the SPIRIT CIRCLE, a network of synagogues that will provide local in-person retiree/senior programming. These events will enable older adults to create social interactions that so important for their physical and mental health.
OU SPIRIT is looking for synagogues to become part of the CIRCLE in this endeavor which includes:
- Synagogues accepted into the SPIRIT CIRCLE will receive the SPIRIT CIRCLE logo with their synagogue name by the OU’s marketing team and a tool kit to assist them in creating impactful retiree programs
- A subsidy up to $10K will be available and paid to the synagogue upon completion of programming — receipts will be required for all reimbursements
- Room rental and refreshments should be covered by the synagogue and will not be included in the reimbursement
- Marketing and promotion are eligible for reimbursement
- Reimbursement for speakers exclude all synagogue staff and members
- A minimum of 10 programs should be scheduled during the year.
- Programs should be open and appropriate for both men and women.
- SPIRIT CIRCLE members will be part of a WhatsAPP group to provide support to each other.
- 1 year financial support is available for members of the SPIRIT CIRCLE
