A pocket watch that belonged to Sinai Kantor, a Jewish Russian immigrant who died aboard the Titanic, has been sold at auction for $57,500. The watch features Hebrew letters on its face and an image of Moses holding the Ten Commandments on its back. It was purchased by John Miottel, a collector of timepieces relating to the Titanic.

Miottel, who operates a musum that features timepieces belonging to victims of the famous disaster, said that the new acquisition “will take one of the primary spots in our collection.”

Kantor, the watch’s original owner, was an immigrant from Russia bound for New York. His wife, Miriam, survived the sinking of the Titanic when it struck an iceberg. The Kantors, who were among the ship’s 285 Second Class passengers, paid 26 pounds sterling for their ticket, approximately $3,666 today. The Titanic had a kosher kitchen.
