Exploring the Digital World: Technology Tips for Seniors

In today’s world, personal technology is everywhere and plays an important role in our daily lives. From smartphones to smart speakers, technology has transformed the way we live, learn, pursue leisure activities, and interact with others. However, many adults may not be taking full advantage of the amazing benefits that personal technology has to offer.

Join Joan Green to explore ways you may not realize exist to overcome communication and cognitive challenges, connect online with others, become more organized, reduce stress, and have some fun! Participants will discover ten specific strategies, such as using dictation and read-aloud accessibility features and smart assistants like Siri or Alexa, to confidently and competently engage with technology. The presentation caters to tech novices and seasoned users alike, offering valuable tips to improve tech-savvy skills and make the most out of personal technology.

Presented by Joan L. Green, M.A. CCC-SLP

Joan Green is a passionate advocate for affordable technologies that improve people’s lives. She has an extensive background as a speech-language pathologist, assistive technology specialist, and online tech advisor, and has been helping individuals and organizations for many years.  Joan offers personalized 1:1 tech advising sessions to families and organizations and creates engaging courses and presentations on assistive technology. She has authored four books on the topic of assistive technology, which aim to help people with special needs. Her most recent initiative is to mentor a group of ElderTech Advisors to improve access to technology implementation for seniors. She excels at leveraging technology to create innovative solutions that enhance communication, reading, writing, memory, and productivity. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Joan received her formal graduate education from Northwestern University and now resides in Montgomery County, MD.
