Creating a Caring Community: Supporting a Loved One Facing Illness

• 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. We all know someone who has faced cancer. For someone facing illness, support from friends and family is critically important.
• We often assumed that supporting someone in need is instinctive, and that we know the best way to help. That is not always the case. Together we’ll explore the best ways to support a friend or loved one facing serious illness, both as individuals and as a community as a whole.
• Also included in the discussion will be caregiver support. To best support someone with cancer, you have to have some support yourself. Cancer is a difficult diagnosis that evokes difficult emotions in everyone. Don’t let that get in the way of offering support.

Presented by Eve Reingold Kleinerman, JD who is Illinois Regional Director for Sharsheret, is a graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Eve oversees Sharsheret’s office in the Greater Chicago area, and all local programmatic efforts including outreach, education, partnership development and fundraising.
