Back to School for Women
OU Torah Seminars Offer Women the Opportunity to Continue Serious Jewish Scholarship

For today’s Jewish woman, Torah study is a given, often including a year of post-high school study in Israel. As many of these educated women graduate college, they often begin the difficult task of juggling career and family. Yet, a burgeoning number of these women also want to continue their Jewish study on an advanced level. The Orthodox Union’s Torah Seminars for Women offers weekly graduate-level classes to help turn this desire to learn into a reality.

Different course are offered at three locations: Sunday mornings at the West Side Institutional Synagogue on West 76th Street in Manhattan; Monday evenings at Congregation Adereth El on East 29th in Manhattan; and Tuesday evenings at the Young Israel of Woodmere.

The upcoming fall session, which begins on Sunday, September 17th, offers an array of diverse classes. Topics include: delving into Maimonides writings; studying the laws of prayer and other daily laws through Talmudic and rabbinic texts; exploring marriage through Torah guidelines; and studying many of the dynamic personalities in the Bible.

The courses, generally designed for women with strong Judaic studies backgrounds, are taught by an outstanding cadre of scholars including Yeshiva University Roshei Yeshivot (deans) Rabbi Hershel Schechter and Rabbi Mayer Twersky, as well as eminent scholars in the fields of bible, history, philosophy and psychology.

“In today’s world, Torah study is crucial for both men and women to help internalize faith and achieve enduring religious enthusiasm. The OU Torah Seminars for Women broadens the opportunity for women to explore the intricacies of Torah and Jewish Law with some of the most exceptional Torah scholars in our community,” said Rabbi Moshe D. Krupka, OU National Director of Synagogue Services.

Tuition is $100 per course; $75 for three or more courses. Torah Seminars for Women is funded in part by Avi Chai Foundation. To view the complete schedule of classes, or for more information please visit our website, www.ou.org, or contact Frank Buchweitz at 212.613.8188.
