Orthodox
Union Series on Family Relationships Takes to the Road
With
Mothers Day and Fathers Day rapidly approaching, the Orthodox
Union is continuing its ongoing series of nationwide seminars on Jewish
parenting and the strengthening of family relationships.
The
aim of the series is to maximize the potential of the Jewish family by building
upon and enhancing the structure that already exists.
In a community where the family is so highly valued, Orthodox experts in
the field of family relationships have much to offer in terms of advice,
practical ideas, pointers, suggestions and skills that can help prevent future
problems.
The
month of May will feature several local programs, the first of which will be
held at the Young Israel of West Hartford, 2240 Albany Avenue, West Hartford,
Connecticut on Saturday, May 6th at 10:45 AM and will feature
scholar-in residence, Barry
Holzer, M.D.
He
will discuss: Instilling Moral Values in a
Secular Society; Adam and Eve in the 21st Century: Insights into the
Tree of Knowledge; and Achieving
Healthy Relationships in an Open Society.
The
second lecture series will take place at the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates,
83-10 188th Street, Queens, New York on Sunday, May 7th at
7:15 PM. The theme will be Helping Our Children Becomes
Mentches. The speakers will include: Rabbi Herschel Schachter on the
topic of The Teaching of Middot and Ethics
to Our Children; Dr. Norman Blumenthal on Teenage
Challenges and Changes; and Dr. Rona Novick on Setting Healthy Limits
Before the Teen Years.
The
next lecture will be held at the Riverdale Jewish Center, 3700 Independence
Avenue, Riverdale, New York on Saturday,
May 13th at 11:15 AM. Scholar-in-Residence
Dr. Norman Blumenthal will speak about: Merging
Discipline and Love: Raising a Wholesome Family; At Peace With Oneself While
Sharing a Life With Someone Else: The Challenge; and Paradox
of Marriage and A Rebellion Underfoot? Orthodox Teens Today.
The
following day a lecture will take place at Yavneh
Academy, 155 N. Fairview
Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey on Sunday, May 14th at 9:00 AM. The
speakers will include: Dr. Aviva
Biberfeld who will speak about Setting
Healthy Limits in Pre-School and Early Grades; Dr.
Norman Blumenthal who will speak about Teenage
Challenges and Changes; Dr. Jeffrey Lichtman who will speak about Effective
Discipline Techniques; and Dr. Rona Novick who will discuss Handling
Homework Hassles Successfully.
Sunday
May 21st will include 2 separate programs.
One will be held at The Etz Chaim Synagogue, 10167 San Jose Boulevard,
Jacksonville, Florida at 11:00 AM, where Rebbetzin Rookie Billet will speak
about Understanding the War Zone: The
Challenges of the Jewish Family.
The
second lecture will take place at The Young Israel of Spring Valley, 23 Union
Road, Spring Valley, New York at 7:45 PM where Rabbi Eliyahu Safran will speak
about Strengthening Family Relationships.
The
parenting seminars are an Orthodox Union community project, coordinated by the
Department of Synagogue Services with the support of the Rabbinical Council of
America.
