President
Bush or President Gore?
A Nation Waits
As an anxious nation awaits the results of the 2000 presidential election,
Orthodox Union President Mandell I. Ganchrow, M.D., today released the
following statement:
As
the American people await the recount in Florida, we should pause for a
moment, as Jews and as Americans, to pay tribute to this wonderful
democracy in which we are fortunate to live.
When millions of votes are cast, yet the results are decided by
only a few individual votes, it is a true testament to the stability of
our system of government. The fact that this can be done peacefully,
without people taking to the streets with tanks and revolutions, is the
hallmark of our American system. We
are deeply grateful that Jews throughout the country have been elected or
defeated for public office, not based upon their religion, but based upon
their positions and their contributions to our society.
The
Orthodox Union, now in its second century of service to the Jewish
community of America and beyond, is the world leader in youth
work,
advocacy for the disabled, synagogue
services, adult education and
political action. Its kosher
supervision label, the
,
is the worlds most recognized kosher symbol and can be found on over
250,000 products in 68 countries around the globe.
