2001... A Time for
Change
Orthodox Union Biennial National Convention
Once every two years, the Orthodox
Union National Convention provides an opportunity for balabatim, as
well as synagogue and community leaders, to gather together to help shape
the future of the North American Orthodox Jewish community.
The four-day convention
will take place Friday, December 29 - Monday, January 1 at the Rye Town
Hilton in Westchester, NY.
The convention offers the opportunity to enjoy a very rewarding long
weekend. You'll
hear and learn from outstanding rabbanim, academics and community
leaders, on a range of subjects from ethics in daily life to
kavvanah in davening. You'll discuss the issues that move our lives as
Orthodox Jews today, from the search for spirituality to the impact of
technology. You'll hear from government ministers and rabbinic leaders
about the current situation in Israel from the Palestinian uprising to the
ramifications of the so-called secular revolution. You'll benefit from
presentations by recognized experts in their fields, from raising
observant kids with the right values to the halachic considerations of
caring for elderly parents. And you'll enjoy a luxurious hotel, superb
catering and the company of like-minded people from all over the
world.
Speakers
will include Harav Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, Sephardic chief rabbi of Israel,
Harav Yisrael Meir Lau, Ashkenazic chief rabbi of Israel, as well as
leading North American rabbanim and renowned men and women in the fields
of Jewish studies, entertainment, business, psychology, sociology and
education.
As the OU turns a corner and installs a new national lay administration,
the convention provides the opportunity to formulate the resolutions which
will guide its policies over the coming years, and will make the new
leadership aware of the priorities that our communities want them to
address. Entertainment will be provided by Avraham Fried, while tefillot
will be led by Eli Kranzler. The sumptuous meals will be catered by Lasko,
and a fabulous marketplace of vendors will add to the excitement.
The Rye Town Hilton has facilities for the entire family to enjoy the
weekend - swimming, tennis and a fitness center. A children's program will
help take care of the youngsters while parents attend sessions.
