OU WOMEN'S SEMINAR CELEBRATES FIRST
ANNIVERSARY
Y.U. Roshei Yeshiva Teach Advanced Courses for Women
New York, NY, January 24, 1999: The Orthodox
Union's (OU) Torah Institute for Women will celebrate it's first anniversary in February.
The Institute, which features leading Yeshiva
University scholars including Rabbi Michael Rosensweig, Rabbi Herschel Schachter, Rabbi
Mayer Twersky and Rabbi
Mordechai Willig, will begin its new semester, Sunday, January 31.
The program, offering a comprehensive schedule of day,
evening and weekend classes, is held at the West Side Institutional Synagogue at 120 West
76th Street in Manhattan.
"In an age when the boundaries between the religious and the secular are steadily
eroding, it is imperative to nourish one's Jewish commitment with ongoing and intensive
study. The Torah Institute for Women enables women to do just that," said Rabbi
Raphael B. Butler, Executive Vice President of the OU.
Geared for women with strong Jewish backgrounds, the Institute will feature graduate level
courses on thought provoking topics.
The Institute also offers a rigorous, daily program where a group of students works on
perfecting their textual and analytical skills.
Students in this program devote three hours a day to
exploring a topic in Jewish Law and tracing its evolution in the Bible, the Talmud and the
Commentaries. A placement exam and interview are required for admission to this
course.
Tuition is $100 per course; $75 for three or more courses.
Torah Seminars for Woman is funded in part by the Avi
Chai foundation.
