With the approach of Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur, Jews the world over will spend countless hours reflecting on the past year. As
individuals and as a community, this has been a year of great accomplishments, given to us
through Gods benevolence.
It has also been a year of challenges, challenges that we must
continue to address during the coming year. We live in troubled times where rampant
assimilation and anti-Semitism are very real threats to many of our fellow Jews. We also
recall with alarm the attacks individuals and communities have endured because of who they
are or what they believe in.
Therefore, we hope that Jews around the world will approach Rosh
Hashanah 5760 on a more personal, committed note, embracing the words of the prophet
Micah:
"Only to do justice,
And to love goodness,
And to walk modestly with your God
For let all people walk everyone in the name of his god, and we will
walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever."
It is through the prophets message of justice, good deeds,
humility and tolerance for others that we can truly prove our devotion to God and continue
doing His work to better the world.
The Orthodox Union officers and
staff would like to wish our fellow Jews a Shana Tova and a very happy and healthy New
Year 5760.
