OU: Lady Libertys Newest Neighbor
National Headquarters
Moves to Historic Financial District
Lady Liberty has a new neighbor: the Orthodox Union.
A period of unprecedented growth in all areas of the OU prompted the organization to look
for a bigger space to call home. With its move downtown to 11 Broadway -- at the tip of
Manhattan -- the OU has taken up residency alongside many city landmarks. The New York
Stock Exchange, the World Trade Center and City Hall are within walking distance. The
famed East River and Statue of Liberty provide stunning views from OU offices on the
buildings 12th, 13th and 14th floors. And right
outside the OUs new front door, sits the famous life-size bull, which attracts a
daily stream of tourists.
"As the organization of Orthodox Jewry, the OU has been
growing since the day it was founded in 1898. Within the last decade, we have greatly
enhanced both the range and quality of services we are able to provide our constituents.
To encompass all of this exciting expansion, we realized that we must also increase our
space," said Dr. Mandell I. Ganchrow, M.D., president of the OU. "Our new
office, in the heart of downtown Manhattans historic financial district, will
provide us with even more room to grow as we enter our second century of service to the
Jewish community."
Today, more than 200 employees arrive daily at the OU offices,
plying their professional talents to serve the greater Jewish community through The
Institute for Public Affairs (IPA), the
National Jewish Council for the Disabled (NJCD), the Synagogue Services Department, the National
Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY) and, of course,
the Kashruth Department. Though the OU address has
changed, all phone and fax numbers within the organization remain the same.
The Orthodox Union,
celebrating 100 years of service to the Jewish community of America and beyond, is the
world leader in youth work, advocacy for the disabled, synagogue services, adult education
and political action. Its kosher supervision label, the OU, is the worlds most
recognized kosher symbol and can be found on over 200,000 products in 62 countries around
the globe.
