IS ALL THE NEWS FIT TO PRINT?

OU Forum Takes In-Depth Look at the Role
and Responsibilities of the Jewish Press

March 23, 1998

The Orthodox Union (OU) is sponsoring a unique forum exploring the role and responsibilities of the press in the Jewish community, 6:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m., Monday, March 30 at the West Side Institutional Synagogue, 120 West 76th Street in Manhattan. The OU’s annual forum on law and public policy, entitled, "Is All the News Fit to Print," will feature a panel of professionals in Jewish journalism who will analyze and debate some of the critical questions facing Jewish media.

The evening, sponsored by the OU’s Institute for Public Affairs (IPA), will include a presentation by Rabbi Yitzchok Breitowitz, congregational rabbi and Associate Professor of Law at the University of Maryland, on what Jewish law and tradition has to say about the conduct of a Jewish press. This will be followed by a lively question and answer period featuring Eve Kessler, Religion Editor of the Forward, Gary Rosenblatt, Editor of the New York Jewish Week, and Stan Steinreich, a Senior Vice President with Edelman Public Relations Worldwide.

Some of the questions panelists will address include: Does the   press serve the interests of the American Jewish community? What role does editorial subjectivity play in how the press presents its reports to the community? Is the press a forum for civil discussion or a catalyst for acrimony?

Admission is free but reservations are required.
