December 11, 1997 The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (OU) urges Jews of all affiliations to spend Thursday, December 25, the second day of Chanukah, lighting up the faces of the lonely. "What better way to celebrate Chanukah, the festival marking our spiritual victory over foreign forces, than to engage in acts of generosity, charity, and chesed, the very cornerstones of our tradition. On a day when many of us have off from work, let us spend our time visiting the elderly, the lonely and the less fortunate. This Chanukah, let our deeds as well as our menorahs illuminate the world," said Rabbi Raphael B. Butler, executive vice president of the OU. Visit:
