Together in Chessed: Relief Mission to New Orleans

Join Us in New Orleans

This November, OU Board of Directors Members will have the opportunity to step out of the boardroom and into the OU's work in the community. On this four-day Relief Mission to New Orleans, we will participate in hands-on rebuilding projects while also gaining insight into the Jewish community from leaders at local OU member shuls. Your presence will contribute directly to a city still rebuilding 20 years after Hurricane Katrina.

As OU leaders, your presence carries particular weight. You will bring the support, visibility, and personal connection of the OU’s leadership, while contributing directly to the next chapter of recovery.

Tentative Schedule

Sunday, November 15

Arrive in New Orleans by 4:00 PM, followed by a welcome at the hotel and dinner at Beth Israel.

Monday, November 16

Begin the day with davening and breakfast, followed by volunteering at a local market, tours of the Lower Ninth Ward and Jewish community, lunch at Anshe Sfard, and service at the Ozanam Homeless Shelter.

Tuesday, November 17

Spend the day volunteering on a home rebuilding project in the Lower Ninth Ward, followed by dinner at Kosher Cajun.

Wednesday, November 18

Volunteer with Greenlight New Orleans on energy conservation efforts before a closing lunch and departure. An optional visit to the WWII Museum will be available after lunch.

The program cost includes:

4 days and 3 nights of meaningful service and touring.
Fully curated itinerary with seamless logistics and transportation.
All meals included throughout your journey.

While we strive to make this trip as accessible as possible, please note that it is a service-oriented experience that will involve a moderate level of physical activity. Liability Waiver and Media Release

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! THIS IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT THAT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS!

This Release and Waiver of Liability (the “Release”) executed by (the “Volunteer”), in favor of OU Relief Missions and the Orthodox Union, a nonprofit corporation, their officers, employees, and agents (OU Relief Missions and Orthodox Union are referred to herein collectively as “OU Relief Missions”).

The Volunteer desires to work as a volunteer for OU Relief Missions during the from and engage in activities which include constructing and rehabilitating residential buildings, referred to herein as “Activities”.

The Volunteer hereby freely, voluntarily, and without duress executes this Release under the following terms:

Release and Waiver. The Volunteer understands and agrees that the Volunteer may be driven during the OU Relief Mission by an OU employee or OU volunteer. Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless OU Relief Missions and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from Volunteer’s participation in and activities with OU Relief Missions.

Volunteer understands that this release discharges OU Relief Missions from any liability or claim that the Volunteer may have against OU with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death or property damage that may result from Volunteer’s Activities with OU, whether caused by the negligence of OU or its officers, directors, employees, agents or otherwise. Volunteer also understands that OU does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health, or disability insurance in the event of injury or illness.

Medical Treatment. Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge OU Relief Missions from any claim whatsoever which arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered in connection with the Volunteer’s Activities with OU Relief Missions.

Assumption of the Risk. The Volunteer understands that Activities include work that may be hazardous to the Volunteer, including, but not limited to, construction, loading and unloading.

Volunteer hereby expressly and specifically assumes the risk of injury or harm in the Activities and releases OU Relief Missions from all liability for injury, illness, death, or property damage resulting from the Activities.

Media Release. Volunteer does hereby authorize OU Relief Missions, and its affiliates, employees and agents to take photographs and/or video of Volunteer when Volunteer participate at OU Relief Missions events. Volunteer grants OU Relief Missions full rights to use and share the images resulting from the photographs and/or videos and any reproductions thereof (the “Recording”), in whole or in part, along with Volunteer’s name, biographical information and quotations for any purpose including fundraising, publicity, advertising, or on social media, all without further obligation or compensation. Volunteer hereby waives any right of review or approval regarding the Recording and OU Relief Missions shall have the right to edit or delete the Recording in its sole discretion. Volunteer understand that all rights in and to the Recording shall be OU Relief Missions’ sole and absolute property. Volunteer releases and forever discharges OU Relief Missions from all causes of action, suits, or liability of any kind arising from or in connection with the use or publication of any Recording of Volunteer made in connection with Volunteer’s participation in OU Relief Missions events. Volunteer waives any right of privacy associated with the Recording and waives any right to compensation related to the use of the Recording.
