Yachad Gives Thanks
Englewood Resident to be Honored at Annual Yachad Dinner
The Orthodox Union's (OU) National
Jewish Council for the Disabled (NJCD) will honor Rabbi Shmuel and
Barbara Goldin with the Betty Solnica Chesed Award at the Annual NJCD
dinner, Monday, December 4, in Manhattan.
The late Betty Solnica personified
the essence of Gemilat Chesed, acts of loving kindness, and was
completely devoted to family, friends and community service. It is
fitting that the Goldins should receive this honor for their dedication
and exceptional commitment to working on behalf of others.
Despite their extraordinarily busy
schedules and ongoing communal obligations, the Goldins devote much of
their time and energy, both individually and as a couple, to working on
behalf of the NJCD and its thousands of beneficiaries.
Rabbi Goldin, the respected and
beloved spiritual leader of Congregation Ahavath Torah of Englewood, NJ,
has always been a true friend to Yachad, consistently and eagerly
enlisting his community's involvement and support. Whether hosting a
Shabbaton or a parlor meeting, Rabbi Goldin has demonstrated his
understanding of the needs of all children and adults with special
needs.
Mrs. Goldin is a highly trained and
gifted speech and language therapist. She is an outspoken advocate of
each and every one of her students. In order to ensure maximum
carry-over and successful results of her therapy, she becomes personally
involved with their families and teachers to see that they are equipped
to reinforce her efforts to enhance communication and life skills.
OU President Mandell I. Ganchrow,
M.D., explained, "The success of NJCD is largely reliant on the
participation and support of the leaders of the Jewish community.
Rabbi and Mrs. Goldin's tremendous role in providing a host of
opportunities for our members, through their love and commitment to the
developmentally disabled community, is inspirational."
With more than 35 chapters throughout
the United States and Canada, the NJCD, an agency of the Orthodox Union,
is the only national resource center providing specialized guidance and
information as well as direct services to those in the Jewish community
who have special needs. Yachad, a division of the NJCD, provides a wide
range of social, recreational and religious programs, serving well over
1,500 children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Established in 1969, Our
Way is the only Jewish movement reaching out to the deaf and hearing
impaired across the country and bridging the gap between the hearing and
non-hearing worlds. Through a vast array of programs including
Shabbatonim, holiday celebrations, a deaf singles registry, Torah
stud groups, summer tours, family retreats, conventions and
special signing publications, Our Way provides spiritual and social
opportunities for nearly 1,000 deaf across the country.
The
Orthodox Union, now in its second century of service to the Jewish community of America and beyond, is the world leader in youth
work, advocacy for the disabled, synagogue
services, adult education and
political action. Its kosher
supervision label, the
,
is the worlds most recognized kosher symbol and can be found on over
250,000 products in 68 countries around the globe.
