About this community

Charleston has been named the #1 city in the world and the #1 friendliest city in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice. It is located in the beautiful and serene South Carolina Lowcountry, where winters are mild, and summers are spent at the beach.

The Chamber of Commerce predicts 25,000 new jobs within five years. Boeing is expanding its operations with new projects regularly. Other industries include automobile manufacture, high-tech, tourism, military, and medicine. For 3-4 bedrooms, home prices within Charleston’s 3 eruvim start out at around $275K, with rental costs beginning around $1,500. There are about 6 continuing care communities that provide all levels of care on one campus, as well as several independent living (55+) communities in the greater Charleston area.

We celebrate a spectrum of Jews with diverse backgrounds and levels of observance—everyone, no matter where they are on their Jewish path, can find a home in one our congregations: BSBI Synagogue, its satellite The Minyan House, and Congregation Dor Tikvah. Weekly education opportunities abound in all locations. Each group has a special connection and focus on children, the future of our community.

Kosher options include expanding offerings at local supermarkets, kosher dining—including a kosher cafeteria at the College of Charleston, and kosher catering.

Addlestone Hebrew Academy, our Jewish Community Day School, educates our children 18 months through 8th grade and recently moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art building.

Be part of the growth. Be part of the difference. Be part of Jewish Charleston!
