  Rebbetzin Dr. Adina Shmidman is the founding director of the OU Women’s Initiative. She is a community leader with over three decades of teaching experience in New York, Alabama and Pennsylvania. She received a PhD in Educational Psychology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, MS in School Psychology from Queens College and MA in Jewish Education and a Certificate in Educational Technology from Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration, Yeshiva University.  She received a Teacher’s Certificate from Beth Jacob Seminary (BJJ).  She is the rebbetzin of the Lower Merion Synagogue as well as the co-chair of the Lower Merion Community Mikvah in Bala Cynwyd, PA.  She is a kallah teacher and mikvah attendant.  She and her husband, Rabbi Avraham Shmidman, live in Bala Cynwyd, PA and are the parents of four sons.

  Sivan Rahav-Meir is a media personality and lecturer. Married to Yedidya and mother of five, she lives with her family in Jerusalem. She previously went on shlichut her family, serving as the World Mizrachi Shlicha to North America, where she lectured in various communities. She works for Israel TV news, writes a column for Yediot Aharonot newspaper, and hosts a weekly radio show on Galei Zahal (Army Radio). Her lectures on the weekly Torah portion are attended by hundreds and the live broadcast attracts thousands more listeners throughout the world. Sivan lectures in Israel and overseas about the media, Judaism, Zionism and new media. She was voted by Globes newspaper as most popular female media personality in Israel and by the Jerusalem Post as one of the 50 most influential Jews in the world.

  Mrs. Rivka Segal is a leader in adult Jewish education who has taught Torah to women and girls of all ages for more than thirty years. Before making aliyah from Baltimore, MD, taught in Bais Yaakov High School and Maalot Baltimore and was the director of the Rebbitzen Frieda K. Hirmes Women’s Institute of Torah. After moving to Israel in 2005, she founded the L’Ayla Women’s Initiative in Jerusalem. She is a sought-after speaker, known for her creativity and ability to excite and engage audiences of all ages. For the past fifteen years, she has made Tehillim come alive for thousands of people. She is currently in the process of completing a five-volume series entitled Living Tehillim.   Mrs. Zemira Ozarowski

  Mrs. Zemira Ozarowski has been in the field of Jewish education for almost two decades. She currently serves as Director of Community Programming at the OU Israel Center where she runs the L’Ayla Women’s Learning Initiative. In that capacity, in addition to teaching, she runs many women’s learning programs including the monthly Rosh Chodesh seminar, mother-daughter programs, mini-midrasha programs, and more. Zemira has partnered with the OU Women’s Initiative Israel programs, helping coordinate the ALIT Summer Learning program in Israel (summer 2019) and the Pesach Ideas and Inspiration program.  Additionally, she presented a recording on tefillah as part of the Counting Toward Sinai Tefillah Series.  Zemira holds a master’s degree from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration. She is also a certified Yoetzet Halacha and the author of the Torat Imecha Parsha Series books for children. Zemira lives with her husband and children in Mitzpe Yericho.

  Prior to making aliyah Leora (Feigenblum) Bednarsh (ES ’84, HS ’88) was a teacher of Talmud and Halacha at YOF. She currently works as a Yoetzet Halacha on the Nishmat hotline, and teaches Talmud and Halacha, at Sha’alvim for Women, and Yeshiva University’s Midrashiyah women’s leadership program.Leora has been a kallah teacher for over 25 years, and trains kallah teachers at Yeshiva University in Israel. She is a graduate of Drisha’s Scholars’ Circle and the Keren Ariel program for Yoatzot Halacha at Nishmat.   Rabbanit Etta Bendavid is the rebbetzin of Shivtei Yisrael, a large anglo synagogue in Raanana, Israel. She is a certified clinical chaplain with a private practice specializing in end-of-life, grief and spiritual support in all life transitions. Etta is also a Morah L’Halacha (Certified yoetzet halacha from Matan) and serves as a resource to the women in her community and teaches kallot. With MA degrees in Midrash/Theological Interpretation and Education, Etta teaches regularly for women in the community and at Matan. She is also a singer and leads tefilat nashim. Etta made aliyah in 2017 with her husband, Rabbi Eitan Bendavid, and they are blessed with four young children, BH.

  Mrs. Sara Malka (Poupko) Reichman holds a BS in both educational psychology and Jewish studies from Queens College and a master’s degree in secondary education from Azrieli School of Jewish Education and Administration at Yeshiva University. She has also dedicated significant time to studying the great works of Jewish philosophy. Sara Malka has shared her passion for Torah and Jewish philosophy with her students in high school and seminary for decades, teaching at Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls, Ateret Seminary Queens College, Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim and more. Sara Malka designed an honors beit midrash program and created original curricula enabling high school students to become independent learners. She has given lecture series on a variety of topics in Jewish thought and taharat hamishpacha in communities and forums throughout the NY Metropolitan area and in Israel. At the OU Women’s Initiative, Sara Malka taught Sefer Shmuel Aleph to over 5,000 women worldwide as part of the Torat Imecha Nach Yomi Program and presented a shiur at the Siyum event.  She also presented a recording on tefillah as part of the Counting Toward Sinai Tefillah Series.  Ten years ago, she fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to Israel where she and her husband are raising their family. She currently teaches at Midreshet Rachel/Shapell’s in Jerusalem.

  Mrs. Leah Feinberg is a master educator, who taught at Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls in Hewlett for 21 years, also serving as Tanach Department Chairperson and New Teacher Mentor. She was a popular maggedet shiur in the Woodmere community, where she taught a weekly Navi shiur for women. Since making aliyah in 2017, Leah has taught at Michlalah and the Emek Learning Center, and is a frequent lecturer at Kehillat HaElah in Ramat Beit Shemesh and at the OU Israel Center where she has lectured at Yemei Iyun, the ALIT Summer Learning Program both in person and on Zoom, and at a Beit Midrash series of classes. Leah taught Megillat Esther in the first cycle of Torat Imecha Nach Yomi and Sefer Shmuel Bet in the second cycle.

Sarina, originally from the Chicago area, made Aliyah in 2014 after completing her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Jewish Studies from Yeshiva University, and her master’s degree in Biology Education from Columbia Teachers College. She continued her studies with the Matan Bellows Eshkolot Educators Institute for Tanakh and Jewish Studies. She lives with her husband and three children in Israel’s beautiful Judean desert.

  Rebbetzin Abby Lerner

  Abby Lerner serves as the first national director of conversion services for GPS (Geirus Policies and Standards), the network of conversion courts established in 2008 to serve communities throughout North America. In this role, Rebbetzin Lerner supports candidates through the process of conversion, answering questions, addressing concerns, and acting as a liaison to the batei din. The Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) oversees the batei din and sets standards for the more-than-200 Orthodox conversions that take place every year in the United States. Prior to this position, Rebbetzin Lerner taught limudei kodesh at Yeshiva University High School for Girls in Queens, NY, for nearly three decades. She formally served as the rebbetzin of the Young Israel of Great Neck, NY, for more than four decades. She and her husband made Aliyah to Jerusalem in September of 2020.

  Leah Herzog is an educator, writer and psychologist who currently teaches at MATAN and various midrashoth, as well as international zoom classes and lectures. She also works as an instructional coach and a museum educator, and is a certified tour guide at the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem. Leah graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Psychology from Barnard College, when she was also inducted into the Phi Betta Kappa society, and earned her Teacher’s Certification from Michlalah, the Jerusalem College for Women. She holds an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago and continued her doctoral work in the same field; she also received certification from the Administrator Development Academy at the University of Cincinnati. Leah has taught Tanach and psychology to high school students and adults for over 30 years; in addition, Leah chaired the Tanach department at RKYHS in Livingston, NJ . Before her aliya in 2019, Leah taught Tanach and was the co-director of Israel Guidance at Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls in Teaneck, NJ for 13 years. Leah is also a writer, a Sefaria Educator, a certified mentor and an expert in Project-Based Learning in the Jewish studies classroom. She also liaises with the human networks around people with impairments, as well as supporting and educating regarding infertility and pregnancy loss. She lives in Givat Ze’ev with her husband, Rabbi Avi Herzog and has two adult children.

  Atara Starr is a passionate Jewish educator currently working in Midreshet HaRova. Atara teaches Tanach, Topics in Chassidut and Jewish Philosophy. Atara is also a Mashgicha, regularly meeting with and guiding the students through their year long experience in Israel. One of the highlights of her time in HaRova is joining the girls for their annual trip to Poland where her passion for Chassidut and Jewish History come alive.

  Atara is originally from New York where she studied Bible and Jewish History in Stern and earned her Masters degree in Azrieli in Jewish Education. After making Aliyah in 2011 she taught in numerous seminaries as well as working on projects in curriculum building before joining the HaRova faculty in 2016.   She has taught in various seminaries in Jerusalem, has worked in education and outreach for over 30 years. She currently teaches at Baer Miriam and Shiviti, is the editor for the Hebrew website Aish.co.il, writes and edits articles for Aish.com, has led Israeli groups on the Momentum trips, and has organized and led her own Women’s Reconnection Trips since 2011.  She lives with her husband, Rabbi Nechemia Coopersmith in Jerusalem. They have 5 children and 2 grandchildren.

  Rabbanit Shani Taragin received her B.A. and M.A. in Tanakh and Talmud from Bar-Ilan University and is a graduate of Nishmat’s Keren Ariel Program for certification as a halachic advisor (yoetzet halacha) in issues of family purity law. She is the educational director of Matan Eshkolot – Tanakh teachers’ education program and of the Morot l’Halacha program in Matan Renana.

  Rabbanit Shani serves on the advisory committee for the Mizrachi Olami Shalhevet program for shlichim and lectures throughout Israel and North America on topics of Tanakh, Jewish Education, and Jewish Law. She is a senior lecturer in Matan and is the curriculum coordinator for the Matan – Bnei Akiva program (MTVA). In addition, Rabbanit Shani is a Ra’mit Tanakh in Midreshet Lindenbaum and teaches at Migdal Oz, the Women’s Beit Medrash of Efrat and Gush Etzion and in Matan Ramat Shiloh.

  She has presented many shiurim at the OU Women’s Initiative, including, introductory shiurim to each sefer of the Torat Imecha Nach Yomi Program, Weekend of Inspiration and Selichot Night Shiurim, ALIT Summer Learning Program courses in Israel and in the USA, and Rosh Chodesh shiurim.

  Together with her husband, Reuven, she serves as Rosh Beit Medrash for the Beit Medrash Program in Machaneh Moshava Pennsylvania during the summer and as Educational Director of Mizrachi Olami-RZA. Shani lives with her family in Alon Shvut, Gush Etzion-Israel.

Aviva currently teaches at Baer Miriam seminary as well as Dror Elementary School and gives lectures at the OU Center in Jerusalem. She is also a certified kallah teacher through The Eden Center.   Dr. Chana Tannenbaum lectures at Bar Ilan University, Matan, and other adult learning initiatives. She has worked as a Jewish educator, in teaching and administration, for more than 30 years. She earned her doctorate at Yeshiva University, where she was also the recipient of the Baumel award, given to the most outstanding faculty member throughout Yeshiva University.   Mrs. Tali Pfeiffer made aliyah with her family and is currently living in Ramat Beit Shemesh. She is teaching Tanach and Machshava at Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim (MMY) and Tiferet. Prior to making Aliyah, Tali was a beloved Tanach teacher and girls Torah Bowl coach at Yeshivat Frisch in Paramus, NJ. She also served as the Adult and Teen Educator at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck, NJ.  Tali received her BA in Judaic Studies with a minor in education and psychology from Stern College for Women and her MA from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration.

  Mrs. Karen Hochhauser lives with her family in Beit Shemesh, where she is the Director of Student Affairs at Tiferet.  She has a passion for learning and teaching Torah and enjoys helping the next generation carve out their unique path in Avodat Hashem. With vast experience in both formal and informal Jewish education, Karen is a sought out teacher and mentor for women in the areas of Talmud Torah, spiritual growth, dating and family.

  Mrs. Zahava Sturm

  Zahava Sturm is an alumna of Machal Michlalah Yerushalayim, and holds Masters degrees in Jewish Education from Azrieli Graduate School and in Human Genetics from Hebrew University. She teaches in the Tanach department at Michlalah and has previously taught  at other Yerushalayim Seminaries as well as at SKA high school in New York. Zahava has also worked in genetics research at Shaare Zedek Medical Center and in Biology Education at Touro College Israel.  Zahava lives with her family in Yerushalayim

  Mrs. Sara Frieberg

  Sara Frieberg received her BA in Judaic Studies from Stern College for Women and her MA in Bible from the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Yeshiva University. She served as the Co-Director of the OU Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) with her husband, Rabbi Adam Frieberg at Rutgers University for 3 years. They then served as the Assistant Rabbi and Rebbetzin at the Young Israel of Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for five years. In Hollywood, Sara also served as the Coordinator of Women’s Engagement at Young Israel. In this capacity, she created innovative programming and taught shiurim throughout the community. Sara created the Eishet Chayil Initiative, an eight-month program providing communal events for women which blend Torah perspectives with matters of time management, financial health, mental health, physical health and wellness, leadership and spirituality.  This program was selected by the OU Women’s Initiative as a recipient of the Challenge Grant in 2018.  Subsequently, Sara served as a coordinator for the Women’s Initiative Create and Connect Program in which she guided women in communities across the US to create similar programming in their communities. Sara and her family fulfilled their dream of Aliyah this past summer, and are living in the amazing Sheinfeld community in Beit Shemesh.
