Ms. Pessie Novick has been a lifelong student, on both sides of the desk. Over the decades she has taught Tanach at a variety of levels, ranging from middle and high school to adult education. She has served as principal of Torah Academy of Philadelphia High School for Girls and was the founding principal of Ora Academy High School for Girls in Rochester, NY. Her experience in adult education has included participation in a variety of community and congregational programs, including the Florence Melton School of Jewish Literacy for Adults. While in Rochester, Pessie also served as the monthly “Community Voice” for WXXI, the city’s NPR affiliate. Having retired from formal Chinuch after 46 years, Pessie is now a free-lance writer and editor for various publications within the Anglo-Jewish press. Her article “Shuki,” which appeared in “Moment Magazine,” earned her the “Simon Rockower Award,” presented by the American Jewish Press Association. Pessie is the mother of four beautiful children, the youngest of whom has Down Syndrome and lives in a Women’s League group home. The other three are married with children.
