Growing up in Portland, Oregon in 1997 there were no options in the community for Jewish teens to experience programs like NCSY, until Sherene Nilli Rafiee and Matthew Rosenberg restarted the Portland chapter. They were eighth graders at the time and had just returned from a Shabbaton in Seattle which was the closest NCSY chapter.

OU-JLIC Welcomes Incoming Transfers
OU-JLIC West began the year by hosting two different events to welcome and integrate Jewish students who are transferring to UCLA. For two sequential weeks, socially distanced Meet & Greets were hosted in the LA-Valley and the LA-City, to accommodate transfers from CSUN, Pierce and Valley Colleges as well as those coming from Santa Monica College.

The Power of Yachad’s “Backyard Buddies”
Yachad LA introduced for the first time ever, a program called Backyard Buddies. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in place this program was created to combat the feeling of isolation and loneliness that our members faced. This buddy program was designed in a way to both give parents an hour or so of respite and provide some fun social interaction for the Yachad members.

Great Plates Los Angeles Senior Meal Program
OU on the West Coast is proud to make Los Angeles area seniors aware of a valuable opportunity to have kosher meals delivered for free. With the government program offered by the county of Los Angeles “Great Plates Delivered” we are able to help older adults and adults at high risk from COVID-19 to stay home and stay healthy by delivering three nutritious meals a day.

NCSY Summer Aims to Double the Number of Teens Going to Israel in 2021
Thanks to a generous grant from The Marcus Foundation and powered by the Jewish Education Project, NCSY is uniquely positioned to nearly double the number of public school Jewish teens and substantially increase the number of Jewish day school teens experiencing trips to Israel in the upcoming Summer 2021 season.
