OU CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD AND IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT STEPHEN J. SAVITSKY TO BE SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE, JUNE 4, IN SUFFERN

Orthodox Union Chairman of the Board and Immediate Past President Stephen J. Savitsky will be visiting the Suffern Jewish community as Scholar-in-Residence at Congregation Bais Torah, Shabbat Parshas Naso, June 4. The synagogue is located at 89 West Carlton Road.

Mr. Savitsky will give the Shabbat morning drasha. He will speak at 6:45 p.m. on “Achdut in the Jewish Community: Is it Worth the Fight?” Finally, Mr. Savitsky will also deliver a d’var Torah during seudat shlishit.

Rabbi Yisroel Gottlieb, Rav of Congregation Bais Torah, declared, “Stephen Savitsky’s vision and leadership have placed the OU at the forefront of Jewish communal life. We have invited Mr. Savitsky to join us for Shabbos to share some of that vision with us, and to reaffirm our commitment, as a member shul, to the goals and ideals of the Orthodox Union.”

During his six-year OU presidency, New York-based Mr. Savitsky often visited Jewish communities large and small as part of a North American tour to bring the OU message far and wide, while at the same time receiving feedback from OU member congregations about their needs and how the OU could respond to them. He continues these visits as Chairman of the Board, his position since this past January.
