{"id":53508,"date":"2016-03-22T16:11:35","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T21:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/?p=53508"},"modified":"2016-03-22T16:11:35","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T21:11:35","slug":"teen-arrested-for-drawing-swastika-in-cedarhurst-ny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/anti-semitism\/teen-arrested-for-drawing-swastika-in-cedarhurst-ny\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen Arrested for Drawing Swastika in Cedarhurst, NY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the JTA:<\/p>\n<p>A suburban New York teen was arrested for drawing two swastikas on the sidewalk in a heavily Jewish community.<\/p>\n<p>The swastikas were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jta.org\/2016\/03\/09\/news-opinion\/united-states\/swastikas-drawn-on-sidewalk-in-suburban-nys-five-towns\" target=\"_blank\">discovered<\/a> earlier this month two blocks apart in Cedarhurst, a town on\u00a0Long Island, New York.\u00a0Children who saw the swastikas on the sidewalk on their way to school on March 7 told their parents, who called police, WCBS-TV\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/newyork.cbslocal.com\/2016\/03\/08\/cedarhurst-swastikas\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Rivera, 17, was arrested Sunday night at his home in Lawrence, New York. He was charged with two counts of aggravated harassment and was ordered to return on April 13 to First District Court in nearby Hempstead, according to local reports.
