Watch it now:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"LimelightEmbeddedPlayer\"><script src=\"\/\/video.limelight.com\/player\/embed.js\"><\/script><object id=\"limelight_player_443221\" class=\"LimelightEmbeddedPlayerFlash\" data=\"\/\/video.limelight.com\/player\/loader.swf\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" name=\"limelight_player_443221\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"\/\/video.limelight.com\/player\/loader.swf\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"window\" \/><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"flashVars\" value=\"playerForm=PlayerHorizontalPlaylist&amp;channelId=056026a460a04f5ca0c8ef34f2eac055&amp;deepLink=true\" \/><\/object><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We covered the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Simple ways to protect your children from unsafe behavior<\/li>\n<li>Enabling your children and teens to make good decisions<\/li>\n<li>Teaching children and teens to resist negative peer pressure<\/li>\n<li>How to make Purim a healthy experience for young children and helping prevent the inevitable\u00a0Purim meltdowns<\/li>\n<li>Recognizing how Purim may impact your introverted child<\/li>\n<li>Creating a seuda that is child-friendly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>First and foremost we discussed that if we want to protect our children from unsafe behaviors we need\u00a0to role model for them how to act appropriately. This is particularly important around Purim time where\u00a0we there are many issues surrounding underage drinking.<\/p>\n<p>We also discussed that in order for us to be good role models for our children, we need to establish a\u00a0good relationship with them.<\/p>\n<p>We learned effective ways to maintain a good relationship with our tweens and teens, by talking to\u00a0them in a way that is respectful, loving and kind. We now all understand that anytime we communicate\u00a0with our teens we need to do so in a way that lets them know that we have confidence in them that\u00a0they will make good decisions (even when we are not around.)<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples on how to help your child practice making good decisions all year round:<\/p>\n<p>To encourage a feeling of autonomy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWould you like a sandwich or pizza for lunch?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDo you want to make the sandwich or should I?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWould you like to ride your bike or take a walk over to the park?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To encourage involvement in making rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWhen is a good time for you to set the table?<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWould you like to say excuse me or pardon me when you leave the dinner table?<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWhat is a good amount of time for computer use for kids?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To encourage kids self-care:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you want to take a bath or a shower?<\/li>\n<li>Do you want to use bar soap or baby soap?<\/li>\n<li>Do you want to get a blue or green toothbrush?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To encourage decision making:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you like the blue or clear bowl?<\/li>\n<li>Do you think Grandma would like flowers or a gift card for her birthday?<\/li>\n<li>What should we make for dinner, chicken or noodles?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week\u2019s Purim lunch break webinar was a great success, drawing viewers from around the country\u00a0and in Israel as well.
