They serve both a physical and a spiritual purpose, symbolizing our hopes that G-d will envelop His strength and severity with compassion, as the dough (compassion) covers the meat (harshness).<\/p>\n<p>Looking for ways to increase the nutritional content of the kreplach meal? This recipe features whole wheat flour and the use of chia seeds as a replacement for one egg. As well, if serving in soup make sure to use a low-sodium soup base or broth.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Yom Kippur Pre-Fast Kreplach<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dough<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1\u00be \u00a0cups whole wheat flour<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 egg<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 chia egg<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\u20442 teaspoon salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>3 Tablespoons\u00a0oil<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Filling<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 cup ground cooked beef or chicken<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 small onion, grated<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon salt<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a large bowl combine dough ingredients together. Knead and roll out thin on a floured board. Cut into 3-inch squares.<\/li>\n<li>In a small bowl mix filling ingredients well. Put a spoon-sized amount of filling in the center of one dough square, bring one corner to meet the opposite corner making a triangle shape and press edges firmly with moist fingers to close.<\/li>\n<li>Place in boiling water. Cook approximately 20 minutes until kreplach float to top.<\/li>\n<li>Kreplach can be either served in soup or saut\u00e9ed in oil for a crispier taste. To saut\u00e9: Heat oil in a skillet over medium flame.
