It\u2019s a legume that provides you with essential nutrients like iron, folate, phosphorus, protein, and dietary fiber. They\u2019re a great protein replacement for meat or dairy, can be tossed on a salad, and, believe it or not, when ground they can replace flour in baking recipes for nutrient rich desserts.<\/p>\n<p>Kosher status: Raw chickpeas and garbanzo beans are Kosher, as long as there are no additives. Buying canned? Make sure the package has a kosher symbol.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Scrumptious Brownies<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 (14-oz.) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 eggs (or 2 chia eggs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/food\/chi-chia-seeds-kosher-healthy-easy\/\">see more here<\/a>)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon\u00a0vanilla<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/3 cacao or cocoa powder<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2\/3 cup coconut sugar, sugar, or honey<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoons\u00a0coconut milk (or substitute soymilk\/almond milk)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 teaspoons baking powder<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup chocolate chips <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Directions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F and lightly grease 9&#215;9-inch pan or line with parchment paper.<\/li>\n<li>Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until completely smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Pour brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for about 30 min, or until brownies test clean when inserting a fork.<\/li>\n<li>Allow brownies to cool at least 20 minutes before cutting and serving.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Recipe adapted from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theroastedroot.net\/dark-chocolate-chickpea-brownies\/\">http:\/\/www.theroastedroot.net\/dark-chocolate-chickpea-brownies\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Note: The bracha for these brownies is Shehakol as they don\u2019t contain any flour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chickpeas, garbanzo beans, hummus-call \u2018em by any name it\u2019s the same bean.
