Oh, sure we can still barbeque until the first frost and swim for another couple of weeks but Labor Day is the truly last \u201cfree\u201d day we have a day off until after the holidays.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I typically think of\u00a0 hot dogs as the go to food of the day and while I\u2019m all for serving them \u201cnaked\u201d with just the usually cast of condiments, chopped onions and tomatoes, the following gourmet and slightly off-the-beaten-track recipes will help you send the season off in style. You can of course, use kosher turkey dogs, Polish sausage or kielbasas or even kosher brats if you so choose.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Just remember, as you\u2019re\u00a0polishing off your 5<sup>th<\/sup> or 6<sup>th<\/sup> dog of the day there are only\u00a0 a few more days until the feasting and fasting of the high holidays will be upon us and we have to fit into our holiday best so even though the recipes are delicious, try to limit yourself to just one or two.<\/p>\n<h3><u>Reuben<\/u><strong style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0Hot Dogs (meat)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>4 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup chopped onion<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup sauerkraut, drained<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd teaspoon caraway seeds<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bc teaspoon kosher salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bc teaspoon pepper<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2\/3 cup white wine<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 split hot dog buns, toasted<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/3 cup Thousand Island dressing<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 slices pareve white cheese<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 kosher hot dogs<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a skillet heat the oil and saut\u00e9 the onions for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned.<\/li>\n<li>Add the sauerkraut, caraway, salt, and pepper and continue cooking for 3 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Add the wine and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Spread insides of buns with half of the dressing, then place 1 piece of pareve cheese in each bun over the dressing.<\/li>\n<li>Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F.<\/li>\n<li>Grill hot dogs on a barbeque or in a grill pan for about 4 or 5 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Place the hot dogs in the buns and put them on a baking sheet. Spread the remaining dressing on top of the hot dogs and divide the sauerkraut between the of hot dogs.<\/li>\n<li>Cook\u00a0for 3 minutes or until pareve cheese melts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>This recipe can be doubled or tripled.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gyros\u00a0Dogs (meat)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>4 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>4 kosher lamb sausages or kosher Polish sausage or kosher jumbo hot dogs<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 hot dog buns<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup pareve sour cream<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 seeded and chopped cucumber<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup pitted kalamata olives, sliced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>10 (\u00bc-inch thick) cucumber slices, halved<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 plum tomato, halved, sliced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoons chopped onions<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a bowl combine the pareve sour cream and chopped cucumber. Mix to combine and season with salt and pepper. Set it aside.<\/li>\n<li>Heat grill over medium heat.<\/li>\n<li>Grill sausages until cooked thoroughly and browned on all sides, about 8 to 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Place sausages in buns and spread the pareve sour cream mixture over the top. Sprinkle on olives, cucumber, tomato, and onions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Modified from sheknows.com<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Mango Dogs\u00a0with\u00a0Pineapple Mustard (meat)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>8 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>8 kosher polish sausage or kosher jumbo hot dogs<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>8 hot dog buns, toasted<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 avocados, sliced<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">For the Mango Salsa<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 large ripe mango, peeled and diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd small red onion, diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bc cup chopped parsley<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 chili pepper, seeded and minced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon olive oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Salt and pepper<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">For the Pineapple Mustard<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>2\/3 cup chopped fresh pineapple<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup Dijon mustard<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon honey<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon minced garlic<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In the food processor combine the pineapple, garlic and Dijon mustard. Process until smooth and then set it aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl combine the mango, onion, bell pepper, parsley, chili pepper. Mix to combine.<\/li>\n<li>Add the oil and salt and pepper to taste. Set the mixture aside.<\/li>\n<li>Grill the sausages or hot dogs for 6 to 8 minutes until cooked throughout.<\/li>\n<li>Spread the mustard on the buns. Place the sausages on the buns and top with mango salsa and sliced avocado.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Modified from bhg.com<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Hot Dog\u00a0Cucumber Relish (pareve)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Makes 3 to 4 cups of relish, enough for\u00a012 hot dogs<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>2 large cucumbers, peeled and finely diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 red bell peppers, finely diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 onions, finely diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 celery stalks, finely diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 jalapeno peppers, finely minced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 tablespoons salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 cups granulated sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cups white vinegar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd tablespoon celery seed<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd tablespoon dill seed<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a large bowl combine the cucumbers, red bell peppers, onions, celery, and jalapeno peppers in a large bowl. Add salt the and cover everything with cold water.<\/li>\n<li>Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours, then drain very well.<\/li>\n<li>In a sauce pan combine the sugar vinegar, celery seeds, and dill seeds.
