You know the ones I\u2019m talking about, those that are hiding behind the other stuff I don\u2019t need, pushed to the WAY back with only a cup or two of flakes or Os&#8211;not enough to make a bowlful but just enough to make me hesitate to throw them out, because well, you just don\u2019t throw out perfectly good cereal. I mean, there could be a zombie apocalypse and we\u2019d be barricaded in the house with, G-d forbid, no cereal, and then where would we be?<\/p>\n<p>So, even at this one time of year when there is pretty much a get-out-of-jail-free card for discarding any and all bits and bites of leftovers, I still have that moment of hesitation.<\/p>\n<p>I defiantly throw caution and common sense to the wind and decide that one last-ditch recipe is all need to make the leftovers disappear.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Honey\u00a0and Nut Salad (dairy or pareve, depending on the cereal)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>3 cups romaine lettuce, torn into pieces<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 cups fresh baby spinach<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 diced red delicious apples<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/3 cup dried cranberries or cherries<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup chopped pecans<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup diced celery<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>5 or 6 green onions, sliced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00be to 1 cup any honey-sweetened cereal (e.g. Honeycomb or Honey Nut Cheerios)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Vinaigrette<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoon rice wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>6 Tablespoons olive oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon honey or sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Salt and pepper to taste<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a serving bowl, combine the vinegar, oil, sugar, salt and pepper. Whisk to combine and set aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a salad bowl combine the lettuce, onions, apples, cranberries, pecans, and celery. Toss to combine.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle the cereal on top and drizzle the dressing over the top. Toss to combine and serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>My files, source unknown.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Meatloaf Plus (meat)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>8 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>2 lb lean ground beef<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2\/3 to 1 cup bran cereal<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 chopped onion<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bc cup chopped green pepper<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\u00bd teaspoon salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup barbeque sauce, divided (or more on top if you like)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 teaspoons minced garlic<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 egg<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl combine the ground beef, bran cereal, onion, green pepper, salt, \u00bc cup barbeque sauce, garlic, and egg. Mix to combine.<\/li>\n<li>Transfer to two loaf pans. Bake at 350\u00b0F for 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Top with \u00bd cup barbeque sauce. Bake 30 to 45 minutes more or until done. (You may need to drain.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Sesame\u00a0Corn Flake Chicken (meat)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>8 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 cup bread crumbs (panko or toasted regular bread crumbs)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 to 1\u00bd cup cornflakes, lightly crushed<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>3 Tablespoons teaspoons sesame seeds<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 teaspoons chili powder<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>3 eggs<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 lbs.\u00a0skinless, boneless chicken cut into strips<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>7 to 8 cups torn romaine lettuce (or mix whatever kind of greens you like)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Extra sesame seeds<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dressing<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon chopped parsley<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano or 1 teaspoon dried<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoon chopped fresh tarragon or 1 teaspoon dried<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoons white wine or rice wine vinegar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/3 cup olive oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon honey<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Salt and freshly ground black pepper<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 400\u00b0F. Grease a cookie sheet with sides.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl combine the bread crumbs, corn flakes, sesame seeds, and chili powder and mix to combine. Place the eggs in a large bowl and whisk to combine.<\/li>\n<li>Dip the chicken strips into the beaten egg, and then roll them in the bread crumb\/cornflake mixture, making sure both sides are coated. Place the chicken on the prepared cookie sheet and continue until all the chicken is coated.<\/li>\n<li>Bake 10 minutes, flip the pieces and continue cooking for an additional 7 to 10 minutes until they are cooked throughout, but not overdone.<\/li>\n<li>While the chicken is cooking combine the parsley, oregano, tarragon, vinegar, oil, and honey in a bowl or jar with a tight fitting lid. Whisk or shake to combine. Season with salt and pepper.<\/li>\n<li>You can place the lettuce in a salad bowl or divide it between 8 plates and top with warm cooked chicken. Drizzle the dressing and sesame seeds over the top and serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Submitted by Aaron Martoni of San Francisco, CA; modified from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/epicuran.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">epicuran.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Apple Tart (dairy or pareve)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>10 to 12 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u00be cup butter or margarine<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 cups flour<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup sugar, divided<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 egg, lightly beaten<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>3 Tablespoons cold water<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>6 baking apples, peeled and chopped<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\u00bd cups granola cereal (with raisins is just fine too)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup slivered almonds<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup powdered sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoons lemon juice<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 350\u00b0F.<\/li>\n<li>In bowl of a food processor combine the butter or margarine, flour and \u00bc cup of the sugar. Process until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg and water and pulse just until combined and the mixture forms dough.<\/li>\n<li>Press the dough onto the bottom and sides of an ungreased 9&#215;13-inch baking pan. Bake 15 minutes then remove from the oven.<\/li>\n<li>While the crust is baking, combine the granola, almonds, cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Place the apples on the crust then sprinkle the granola mixture over the top. Bake for 50 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.<\/li>\n<li>Spoon the chopped apples over the crust and then sprinkle the granola mixture over the apples. Press it down slightly. Bake 45 to 50 minutes. Then cool for at least 30 minutes before drizzling on the glaze.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl combine the powdered sugar and lemon juice and mix until smooth.
