But this salad was an unexpected, delicious accident\u2014I randomly teamed up pears with baby spinach after rummaging through my fridge for ingredients.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The results were surprising\u2014and amazing. I did know that fragrant ripe pears are lovely when caramelized, and I added some of the juice from the caramelized pears to the vinaigrette to lend the dressing a pear-infused taste. I love testing my recipes on large\u00a0crowds, and when we attended a fabulous dinner party hosted by Yali, I was\u00a0presented with the perfect opportunity to test this recipe. So when Yali suggested\u00a0that we should plate the salad individually as an appetizer instead of serving\u00a0it in the center of the table, it was the perfect idea\u2014and all the plates were wiped clean.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-30567 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/caramelizedpears-281x300.jpg\" alt=\"caramelizedpears\" width=\"281\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/caramelizedpears-281x300.jpg 281w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/caramelizedpears-960x1024.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/caramelizedpears-550x586.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><em>2 large Anjou pears, peeled, cored, and cut lengthwise into eighths<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bc cup lemon juice<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bc cup brown sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dressing<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1\/3 cup oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon red wine vinegar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon honey<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 teaspoons\u00a0Dijon mustard<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 clove garlic, minced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd teaspoon kosher salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/8 teaspoon fresh black pepper<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Juice from the caramelized pears<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Salad<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>10 oz. baby spinach<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup honey-glazed pecans<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00be to 1 cup Craisins<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup pomegranate seeds<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 425\u00b0F.<\/li>\n<li>Dip the flat sides of the sliced pears in the\u00a0lemon juice and then in the brown sugar.<\/li>\n<li>In a large baking pan, arrange\u00a0the pears in a single layer and roast for 25 minutes. Remove from the\u00a0oven and allow to cool to room temperature.<\/li>\n<li>Cut each pear wedge into\u00a01-inch slices. (Make sure to reserve the pear juice that was released\u00a0during the roasting for the dressing.)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">To prepare the dressing<\/span>: In a small bowl, vigorously whisk together\u00a0the oil, vinegar, honey, mustard, garlic, salt, black pepper, and the reserved\u00a0pear juice until well combined.<\/li>\n<li>In a large salad bowl, combine the baby spinach, pears, glazed pecans,\u00a0and Craisins. Toss with the dressing and sprinkle evenly with the\u00a0pomegranate seeds. Serve immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Dairy Version:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Sprinkle the salad with grated goat or feta cheese before\u00a0serving.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Tuna Tartare<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>6 to\u00a08 Servings<\/p>\n<p>For those\u00a0who dare to be more\u00a0adventurous in the kitchen and\u00a0possess a fearless palate, this tuna tartare\u00a0will give you an urge to diverge.\u00a0This recipe is the culmination of\u00a0many different tartare recipes that I\u2019ve\u00a0experimented with. Now tuna tartare\u00a0has become a staple in all of my holiday\u00a0and Shabbos lunches. At first my\u00a0family was a bit skeptical about eating\u00a0raw fish, but after bravely tasting my\u00a0tuna tartare more than a few times,\u00a0they now thoroughly enjoy it, and it\u2019s\u00a0become a desired substitute for tuna\u00a0fish salad in my home.\u00a0If you prefer not to eat raw fish, sear\u00a0the tuna for twenty seconds per side.\u00a0For best results, tuna tartare should be\u00a0prepared no more than four hours in\u00a0advance.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30568\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/tuna-tartare-281x300.jpg\" alt=\"tuna tartare\" width=\"281\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/tuna-tartare-281x300.jpg 281w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/tuna-tartare-960x1024.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/tuna-tartare-550x586.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/>Ingredients<\/span>:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u00bd lb. sushi-grade tuna, finely diced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 teaspoons\u00a0shallots, minced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon chives, minced<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon lite soy sauce<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon Dijon mustard<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon lime juice<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon kosher salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon seasoned rice vinegar<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a bowl, combine all of the ingredients until mixed.<\/li>\n<li>Refrigerate, covered,\u00a0until ready to serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Serve on your favorite crackers, won ton crisps or bread.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Scallion Quinoa Patties With Lemon Garlic Paprika Aioli<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Yields\u00a010 to\u00a012 patties<\/p>\n<p><em>Creating the best recipe for quinoa presented a serious challenge.
