A check?<\/p>\n<p>How about a kidney?<\/p>\n<p>Last Monday, a mother of three from Israel received this priceless gift from an American married man with children who had been moved by a <a title=\"Kidney Doctor as a Kidney Donor\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ou.org\/index.php\/jewish_action\/article\/76559\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Jewish Action<\/em> story<\/a>\u00a0that ran in 2010. Without this kidney, the mother was facing death.<\/p>\n<p>Editor of\u00a0<em><a title=\"Jewish Action\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ou.org\/jewish_action\" target=\"_blank\">Jewish Action<\/a><\/em>\u00a0Nechama Carmel hoped to inspire when she featured \u201c<a title=\"KIdney Doctor as a Kidney Donor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/jewish_action\/10\/2010\/kidney_doctor_as_kidney_donor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kidney Doctor as Kidney Donor<\/a>,\u201d as did Bayla Sheva Brenner,\u00a0senior writer in the\u00a0OU\u2019s Communications Department, when she wrote\u00a0the companion piece \u201c<a title=\"Meet the Kidney Matchmaker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/inspiration\/meet_the_kidney_matchmaker\/\" target=\"_blank\">Meet the Kidney Matchmaker<\/a>\u201d\u00a0about kidney donor Chaya Lipschutz. \u201cNevertheless,\u201d Carmel says, \u201cit still amazes me that people can be so altruistic.\u201d\u00a0For the 86,000 people nationwide who are waiting for a healthy kidney (according to statistics in the story, obtained from the United States Department of Health and Human Services),\u00a0there could have been no greater gift this holiday season.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-23603\" title=\"Plant - New Growth\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/files\/Plant-New-Growth-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/>Chaya Lipschutz of\u00a0Brooklyn, NY,\u00a0is the creator of\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kidneymitzvah.com\/\">kidneymitzvah.com<\/a><\/em>, an organization she founded after she donated her kidney to a New Jersey mother of two. The donor told Chaya that his decision to donate the kidney was because of the\u00a0<em>Jewish Action\u00a0<\/em>story.<\/p>\n<p>In transplant and recovery terms: so far, so good. The donor is doing very well and the recipient, though she requires a much longer recovery time, is responding positively to the new kidney, Chaya Lipschutz reports. \u201cMore lives can be saved with stories on kidney donation,\u201d she believes.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s to future Chanukahs of great joy, great gifts, and pure greatness.
