{"id":10746,"date":"2007-05-04T20:14:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-04T20:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/production.ou.org\/life\/other\/ashkenazi_chulent_recipe\/"},"modified":"2017-04-12T03:30:24","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T08:30:24","slug":"ashkenazi_chulent_recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/food\/ashkenazi_chulent_recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashkenazi Cholent Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 lb. cubed stew meat<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>3\u00a0to 4 potatoes, cut up<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\u00a0to 2 cups cholent mix<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u00bd cup to 1 cup barley<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 large onion, coarsely chopped<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Salt, garlic powder &amp; paprika to taste<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Soak beans and Barley overnight<\/li>\n<li>Saute&#8217; the onions till lightly brown. Add the cubed meat and saute&#8217; until medium done<\/li>\n<li>Drain the water from the soaked beans and place all the ingredients in a crock pot (if you are using one)<\/li>\n<li>Add enough water to cover, about two inches above<\/li>\n<li>Cook on high for a few hours and then reduce to the low setting for the duration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>I have tried experimenting with adding a little ketchup and Maggi seasoning with good results.
