{"id":10061,"date":"2006-05-04T07:56:01","date_gmt":"2006-05-04T07:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/production.ou.org\/life\/other\/vegetables_and_chow_mein\/"},"modified":"2017-04-10T02:28:43","modified_gmt":"2017-04-10T07:28:43","slug":"vegetables_and_chow_mein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/life\/food\/recipes\/vegetables_and_chow_mein\/","title":{"rendered":"Vegetables and Chow Mein"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>4 servings<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>4 cups Pareve broth<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 cups Diced celery<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup Diced onion<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 cup Chopped cabbage (bok choy if available)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoons oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\u00bd cups Sliced fresh mushrooms<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\u00bd cups Fresh bean sprouts<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2 Tablespoons\u00a0dark molasses<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 Tablespoon soy sauce<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 to 5 Tablespoons cornstarch<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 can chow mein noodles<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span>:<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>In a saucepan, bring the broth to simmer. Add the celery, onion, and cabbage. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the celery is soft.<\/li>\n<li>Heat the peanut oil in a large skillet or wok. Saute the mushrooms until they begin to soften. Add the bean sprouts; cook and stir until they are soft. Use a slotted spoon to place the celery, onion, and cabbage in the skillet. Add the molasses and soy sauce. Stir and cook, adding enough broth to keep it moist and loose.<\/li>\n<li>Dissolve the cornstarch in the remaining broth.
