Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second of three parts of this year\u2019s Three Weeks series.\u00a0 Next week\u2019s third part, which will be emailed,\u00a0<em>b\u2019ezras Hashem<\/em>, on Thursday, will repeat\u00a0<em>Shemoneh Esrei<\/em>\u00a045 and 46, and will include a special Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av segment.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e6\u05b4\u05d9\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05df<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">,\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05e4\u05bc\u05b8\u05d8 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e4\u05bc\u05b8\u05d3\u05b6\u05d4<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">;\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d5\u05b0\u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05d1\u05b6\u05d9\u05d4\u05b8<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">,\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d1\u05bc\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05d3\u05b8\u05e7\u05b8\u05d4\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\">[\u05d9\u05e9\u05e2\u05d9\u05d4 \u05d0:\u05db\u05d6]<\/span><br \/>\nTzion shall be redeemed with justice,<br \/>\nand they that return of her with righteousness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are We Ready to Answer YES?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d0\u05ea \u05e6\u05de\u05d7 \u05d3\u05d5\u05d3 \u05e2\u05d1\u05d3\u05da \u05de\u05d4\u05e8\u05d4 \u05ea\u05e6\u05de\u05d9\u05d7, \u05d5\u05e7\u05e8\u05e0\u05d5 \u05ea\u05e8\u05d5\u05dd \u05d1\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05ea\u05da, \u05db\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05ea\u05da \u05e7\u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05db\u05dc \u05d4\u05d9\u05d5\u05dd<\/span><br \/>\nThe offspring of your servant David may You speedily cause to flourish, and enhance his pride through Your salvation, for we hope for Your salvation all day long<br \/>\n****<\/p>\n<p>Before we begin to discuss this\u00a0<em>brachah<\/em>\u00a0in detail, allow us to explain why we should be especially careful to pause before beginning this\u00a0<em>brachah<\/em>\u00a0(the Chofetz Chaim actually suggests that we do this with every\u00a0<em>brachah<\/em>\u00a0in the\u00a0<em>Shemoneh Esrei<\/em>) and why we should attempt to arouse our hearts now to an even greater level than we have up to this point in\u00a0<em>Shemoneh Esrei<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Yaaros Devash<\/em>\u00a0[Rav Yonasan Eibeschutz, 1690-1764] exhorts every Jew to shed an endless stream of bitter tears while reciting the\u00a0<em>brachos<\/em>\u00a0of \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d1\u05d5\u05e0\u05d4 \u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05e9\u05dc\u05d9\u05dd<\/span>\u201d and \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d0\u05ea \u05e6\u05de\u05d7<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0 Why?<\/p>\n<p>One of the first questions we will be asked on our day of judgment is \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e6\u05e4\u05d9\u05ea \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05d4<\/span>\u2013<em>Tzipisa liy\u2019shuah<\/em>\u201d (<em>Shabbos<\/em>\u00a031a), did we anticipate and yearn for the Salvation?\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>Shaarei T\u2019shuvah<\/em>\u00a0(<em>siman<\/em>\u00a0118, towards the end of\u00a0<em>s\u2019if katan<\/em>\u00a01, quoting from the Arizal) says that when one recites the words \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05db\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05ea\u05da \u05e7\u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05db\u05dc \u05d4\u05d9\u05d5\u05dd<\/span>\u2013<em>ki liy\u2019shuascha kivinu kol ha\u2019yom,<\/em>\u201d he should have\u00a0<em>kavanah<\/em>\u00a0to be able to answer this question affirmatively.\u00a0 Great\u00a0<em>tzadikim<\/em>\u00a0live constantly throughout their lives with \u201c<em>Tzipisa<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 For the rest of us, the\u00a0<em>Shaarei T\u2019shuvah<\/em>\u00a0is advising us that availing ourselves of proper intent as we recite THIS phrase in THIS\u00a0<em>brachah<\/em>\u00a0is our best opportunity to be able to answer: YES, we did long for Mashiach on a daily basis.\u00a0 While there are other ways that we can fulfill \u201c<em>Tzipisa,<\/em>\u201d most of us will need to refer to our\u00a0<em>kavanah<\/em>\u00a0in THIS phrase in THIS\u00a0<em>brachah<\/em>\u00a0to answer YES to this question on our day of judgment.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizal says that one should have\u00a0<em>kavanah<\/em>\u00a0in this phrase from the depths of his heart \u2013 so that he not be embarrassed and disgraced on the day of judgment when he is asked \u201c<em>Tzipisa liy\u2019shuah?<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 The following is a quote from the Arizal, as quoted in the\u00a0<em>sefer Tal\u2019lei Oros<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d1\u05ea\u05d9\u05d1\u05d5\u05ea \u05d0\u05dc\u05d5 \u05d9\u05db\u05d5\u05d9\u05df \u05dc\u05e6\u05e4\u05d5\u05ea \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05d4, \u05db\u05d3\u05d9 \u05e9\u05d9\u05d5\u05db\u05dc \u05dc\u05d4\u05e9\u05d9\u05d1 \u05dc\u05d9\u05d5\u05dd \u05d4\u05d3\u05d9\u05df \u05db\u05e9\u05e9\u05d5\u05d0\u05dc\u05d9\u05df \u05d0\u05d5\u05ea\u05d5 \u05d4\u05e9\u05db\u05d9\u05e0\u05d4 \u05d4\u05e7\u05d3\u05d5\u05e9\u05d4 \u05e9\u05ea\u05e6\u05d0 \u05de\u05d4\u05d2\u05dc\u05d5\u05ea, \u05d5\u05ea\u05d2\u05d0\u05dc \u05d0\u05d5\u05ea\u05e0\u05d5 \u05d2&#8221;\u05db \u05d1\u05d1\u05d9\u05d0\u05ea \u05de\u05e9\u05d9\u05d7\u05da, \u05d5\u05ea\u05e6\u05de\u05d9\u05d7 \u05e7\u05e8\u05df \u05d3\u05d5\u05d3. \u05d5\u05d1\u05d5\u05d3\u05d0\u05d9 \u05d4\u05d1\u05d5\u05d7\u05df \u05dc\u05d1\u05d5\u05ea \u05d5\u05db\u05dc\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea \u05d4\u05d5\u05d0 \u05e8\u05d5\u05d0\u05d4 \u05d4\u05d7\u05db\u05d5\u05d9 \u05d5\u05d4\u05e7\u05d5\u05d5\u05d9 \u05e9\u05dc \u05db\u05dc \u05d0\u05d3\u05dd, \u05d1\u05d0\u05d9\u05d6\u05d4 \u05ea\u05e9\u05d5\u05e7\u05d4 \u05d4\u05d9\u05d0 \u05d1\u05dc\u05d1\u05d5 \u2013 \u05dc\u05db\u05df \u05d7\u05db\u05d4 \u05d1\u05ea\u05e9\u05d5\u05e7\u05d4 \u05d2\u05d3\u05d5\u05dc\u05d4 \u05d5\u05e2\u05e6\u05d5\u05de\u05d4 \u05e2\u05d3 \u05de\u05d0\u05d3, \u05d1\u05db\u05d3\u05d9 \u05e9\u05dc\u05d0 \u05d9\u05d1\u05d5\u05e9 \u05d5\u05dc\u05d0 \u05d9\u05db\u05dc\u05dd \u05dc\u05d9\u05d5\u05dd \u05d4\u05d3\u05d9\u05df \u05db\u05e9\u05d9\u05e9\u05d0\u05dc\u05d5 \u05d0\u05d5\u05ea\u05d5 \u05e6\u05e4\u05d9\u05ea \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05d4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>TRANSLATION: With these words one should concentrate to yearn for the Salvation, in order that he will be able to reply on the day of judgment when he will be asked, \u201cDid you yearn for the Salvation?\u201d\u00a0 Therefore, one should concentrate very much from the walls of his heart with the following thoughts: \u201cI am anticipating and yearning every day for the salvation of the holy Divine Presence to leave the Diaspora, and that You shall redeem us as well with the coming of Your Mashiach, and that You shall make [King] David\u2019s pride to flourish.\u201d\u00a0 And surely He Who examines hearts and thoughts, He sees the expectations and hopes of each person, what passion lies in his heart \u2013 therefore one should anticipate with great and very powerful passion, so that he will not be embarrassed and disgraced when asked, \u201cDid you yearn for the Salvation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Torah,\u00a0<em>baruch Hashem<\/em>, has flourished to amazing heights, and though many do struggle financially, compared to earlier times, most here in America are \u201cwealthy\u201d on a comparative basis.\u00a0 We have never had the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0in our time.\u00a0 We really don\u2019t know or appreciate what the\u00a0<em>g\u2019ulah<\/em>\u00a0will look like.\u00a0 How can we long for and anxiously await the \u201c<em>Y\u2019shuah<\/em>\u201d and be emotional enough to even cry over Yerushalayim, the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>, and the\u00a0<em>Y\u2019shuah<\/em>\u00a0if we are so distant from it? \u00a0Do we feel we are lacking so much that we are brought to tears?\u00a0 So what are we missing and why should we be \u201cshedding an endless stream of bitter tears\u201d? \u00a0Next week,\u00a0<em>b\u2019ezras Hashem<\/em>, we will discuss this difficult challenge that we face today.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d0\u05ea \u05e6\u05de\u05d7 \u05d3\u05d5\u05d3 \u05e2\u05d1\u05d3\u05da \u05de\u05d4\u05e8\u05d4 \u05ea\u05e6\u05de\u05d9\u05d7, \u05d5\u05e7\u05e8\u05e0\u05d5 \u05ea\u05e8\u05d5\u05dd \u05d1\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05ea\u05da, \u05db\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05ea\u05da \u05e7\u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05db\u05dc what are we missing and why should we be \u201cshedding an endless stream of bitter tears\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Yisroel Reisman in \u201cWhy We Weep\u201d (a collection of essays by various\u00a0<em>rabbanim<\/em>, which is, in my opinion, a must-have for the Three Weeks and Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av) cites the Gemara in\u00a0<em>Z\u2019vachim<\/em>\u00a0(24a), which credits David HaMelech for building the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>.\u00a0 The obvious question that\u00a0<em>Tosafos<\/em>\u00a0asks is that we know that David\u2019s son, Shlomo HaMelech, actually is the one who built the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Tosafos<\/em>\u00a0answers that the Gemara meant that David is the one who gave the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0its\u00a0<em>k\u2019dushah<\/em>.\u00a0 What does that mean?<\/p>\n<p>Shlomo built and gave\u00a0<em>k\u2019dushah<\/em>\u00a0to the physical\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 the wood, stones, gold, silver, etc.\u00a0 But David is the heart and soul of the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0(and of\u00a0<em>klal Yisrael<\/em>); he had the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d7\u05e9\u05e7<\/span>\u2013<em>cheishek<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05ea\u05e9\u05d5\u05e7\u05d4<\/span>\u2013<em>t\u2019shukah<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 the desire and yearning \u2013 forming the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e4\u05e0\u05d9\u05de\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea<\/span>\u2013<em>p\u2019nimiyus<\/em>\u00a0of the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>.\u00a0 He raised money and did whatever he could, even though he knew he would not be the one to actually build the physical structure.\u00a0 The essence of the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0was not the physical structure, but rather the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e4\u05e0\u05d9\u05de\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea<\/span>, the heart and soul that came from David HaMelech\u2019s great\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e8\u05e6\u05d5\u05df<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05ea\u05e9\u05d5\u05e7\u05d4<\/span>.\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0was THE place to go to and connect with Hashem.\u00a0 The desire and longing to connect with Hashem was realized, to the greatest extent possible, in the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The physical structure of the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d1\u05d9\u05ea \u05e9\u05e0\u05d9<\/span>\u2013<em>Bayis Sheini<\/em>, the second\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>, is gone forever.\u00a0 The structure of the\u00a0<em>Bayis Sh\u2019lishi<\/em>, the third and final\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>\u00a0will be a different structure.\u00a0 What is still alive? \u00a0It is the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e4\u05e0\u05d9\u05de\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea<\/span>, the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d7\u05e9\u05e7<\/span>, the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05ea\u05e9\u05d5\u05e7\u05d4<\/span>, and the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e8\u05e6\u05d5\u05df<\/span>\u00a0with which, over the generations of this\u00a0<em>galus<\/em>, we have wept for the\u00a0<em>Bayis Sh\u2019lishi<\/em>.\u00a0 Through our heart and tears, we are rebuilding the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e4\u05e0\u05d9\u05de\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<em>Beis HaMikdash<\/em>.\u00a0 It is the inner yearning to connect on a closer level to our Creator for which we weep.\u00a0 This desire and yearning to connect on a closer level is what we must rebuild within ourselves.\u00a0 \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05db\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2\u05ea\u05da \u05e7\u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05db\u05dc \u05d4\u05d9\u05d5\u05dd<\/span>\u201d is our daily opportunity to work on this inner desire and be able to sincerely answer the\u00a0<em>Tzipisa<\/em>\u00a0question with \u201cYES, I did anxiously wait for and long for the rebuilding of the\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05e4\u05e0\u05d9\u05de\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea<\/span>\u00a0and physical\u00a0<em>Bayis Sh\u2019lishi<\/em>, where we will,\u00a0<em>b\u2019ezras Hashem<\/em>, experience the ultimate closeness with Hashem.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we can now appreciate to a greater extent the advice of the\u00a0<em>Yaaros Devash<\/em>\u00a0to shed an endless stream of bitter tears while reciting the\u00a0<em>brachos<\/em>\u00a0of \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d1\u05d5\u05e0\u05d4 \u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05e9\u05dc\u05d9\u05dd<\/span>\u201d and \u201c<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05d0\u05ea \u05e6\u05de\u05d7<\/span>\u201d (<em>Yaaros Devash<\/em>, mentioned by HaRav Avrohom Chaim Feuer in \u201c<em>Shemoneh Esrei<\/em>,\u201d
