Tefilos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to <em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>, many are focused on proper timing as dictated by the\u00a0<em>Shulchan Aruch<\/em>.\u00a0 When can we start? \u00a0When must we finish?\u00a0 Though there is a proper time frame for each of the\u00a0<em>tefilos<\/em>, if we consider the question \u201cWhen is the proper time for\u00a0<em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>?\u201d\u00a0the answer might surprise us.\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>Rambam<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Hilchos B\u2019rachos<\/em>\u00a010:26) states:\u00a0<span dir=\"RTL\">\u05db\u05bc\u05b0\u05dc\u05b8\u05dc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05dc \u05d3\u05bc\u05b8\u05d1\u05b8\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05e2\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc\u05b8\u05dd \u05d9\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05e2\u05b7\u05e7 \u05d0\u05b8\u05d3\u05b8\u05dd \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc \u05d4\u05b6\u05e2\u05b8\u05ea\u05b4\u05d9\u05d3 \u05dc\u05b8\u05d1\u05d5\u05b9\u05d0 \u05d5\u05b4\u05d9\u05d1\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b5\u05e9\u05c1 \u05e8\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd<\/span>\u00a0(The general rule is:\u00a0A person should always cry out [to Hashem] over future possibilities, asking for mercy).\u00a0 Therefore, the answer to our question is:\u00a0<em>ALWAYS<\/em>.\u00a0 Whenever we have a need, the ideal and epitome is to always ask Hashem for help.<\/p>\n<p>The greatest benefit we can derive from\u00a0<em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>, and in fact the very purpose of life according to many, is\u00a0<em>d\u2019veikus<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>bitachon<\/em>, connecting or cleaving to Hashem and trusting or relying on Him exclusively.\u00a0 Practically,\u00a0<em>d\u2019veikus<\/em>\u00a0means thinking about Hashem (at least subconsciously).\u00a0 The\u00a0<em>Meshech Chochmah<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Parshas Eikev<\/em>\u00a010:20) actually defines\u00a0<em>d\u2019veikus<\/em>\u00a0as\u00a0<em>bitachon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the greatest paths to\u00a0<em>d\u2019veikus<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>bitachon<\/em>\u00a0is to begin to apply the\u00a0<em>\u201cRambam\u201d<\/em>\u00a0above to our daily lives.\u00a0 HaRav Moshe Wolfson, in his\u00a0<em>sefer Va\u2019ani\u00a0<span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Tefilah<\/span><\/em>, writes that asking Hashem for the \u201csmall stuff\u201d is the\u00a0<em>\u201cshpitz\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 the pinnacle \u2013 of\u00a0<em>emunah<\/em>.\u00a0 It is a demonstration that we, in fact, firmly believe that the outcome of even the smallest trivial matters is in the Hands of Hashem exclusively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not sufficient for man to\u00a0<em>daven Shemoneh Esrei<\/em>\u00a0three times a day.\u00a0 Rather,\u00a0<em>many<\/em>\u00a0times a day he should pour out\u00a0<em>tefilos<\/em>\u00a0and requests&#8230;from the depths of his heart&#8230;\u00a0 This\u00a0<em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>\u00a0will come forth with a depth of\u00a0<em>kavanah<\/em>\u2026and broken heart.\u00a0 A\u00a0<em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>\u00a0like that certainly will not be returned empty.\u201d\u00a0 (<em>Sefer HaTefilah bi\u2019Mechitzas heChafetz Chaim<\/em>, quoting\u00a0<em>Likutei Amarim<\/em>\u00a0from the Chofetz Chaim)<\/p>\n<p>A heartfelt\u00a0<em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>\u00a0is never returned empty.\u00a0 To be clear, that does not mean the person making the request will definitely receive what he requested.\u00a0 It\u00a0<strong>does\u00a0<\/strong>mean that the\u00a0<em><span class=\"markz8u5ho1ej\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>\u00a0will accomplish: sometimes in upper worlds, sometimes down here, and sometimes what we requested.\u00a0 What is certain is that it will accomplish something needed somewhere,\u00a0<strong>and<\/strong>\u00a0it will further our quest in life to come closer to Hashem.\u00a0 Every time we make a request during our day, outside of the formal\u00a0<em>tefilos<\/em>, we are strengthening our\u00a0<em>emunah<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>bitachon<\/em>, loudly proclaiming that it is\u00a0<strong>only<\/strong>\u00a0Hashem Who can produce the desired outcome.\u00a0 Saying \u201cThank You\u201d spontaneously has a similar effect of strengthening our\u00a0<em>emunah<\/em>, and it brings us closer to Hashem.\u00a0 In fact, the second half of the\u00a0<em>Rambam<\/em>\u00a0quoted above states: \u201c\u2026and one should offer thanks for the past and thank and praise Hashem according to his abilities, and all who increase thanking and praising Hashem constantly,\u00a0<em>\u201charei zeh meshubach<\/em>,\u201d which means that this is praiseworthy and it makes him into an elevated person.<\/p>\n<p>So what does this all have to do with \u201cPesach\u00a0<em>tefilos<\/em>\u201d? \u00a0There is a\u00a0<strong>lot<\/strong>\u00a0to ask Hashem for now before Pesach.\u00a0 We must remember that even in spiritual matters, we must ask Hashem for help.\u00a0 HaRav Shlomo Wolbe and HaRav Eliyahu Dessler made strong statements when they wrote about how many potentially great\u00a0<em>talmidei chachamim<\/em>\u00a0never reach their true potential because they did not turn to Hashem and ask, even plead, for success.\u00a0 The Gemara states that the effort of learning is not enough.\u00a0 Beyond strenuous efforts, heartfelt\u00a0<em>tefilos<\/em>\u00a0are required.\u00a0 The same is true for cleaning our homes for Pesach, cooking, shopping, having peace and love in the home over Yom Tov, and many other important areas in which we need success for the upcoming Yom Tov.\u00a0 Great efforts are being made to clean and cook.\u00a0 We must all feel and express great appreciation for those carrying the brunt of those efforts.\u00a0 Those making the effort must remember that ultimate success of their efforts depends only on Hashem.\u00a0 Will I find that challah roll that the two-year-old hid in the play kitchen oven or behind the\u00a0<em>s\u2019farim<\/em>\u00a0in the bookcase? \u00a0Certainly, we need to put forth effort; but at the same time, we need Hashem to assure a \u201ckosher,\u201d peaceful, and enjoyable Pesach.\u00a0 We need to\u00a0<strong>ask<\/strong>\u00a0for success.\u00a0 The same is true in every area of the upcoming Yom Tov.<\/p>\n<p>We need Hashem\u2019s help to succeed in the physical and spiritual aspects of our Seder preparations.\u00a0 We can prepare for hours for the Seder and then fail in the mission to tell the story in a manner that will infuse and strengthen\u00a0<em>emunah<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>bitachon<\/em>.\u00a0 Even if we spent hours preparing, the timing may be off, the delivery may be off, people may be too tired, etc.\u00a0 We need to ask Hashem to help our words enter into the minds and hearts of the participants of the Seder and be internalized deeply.<\/p>\n<p>HaRav Moshe Feinstein and HaRav Yaakov Kamenetsky jointly wrote an open letter to all of\u00a0<em>klal Yisrael<\/em>\u00a0almost 40 years ago.\u00a0 They wrote about the urgency of stressing\u00a0<em>emunah<\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>hashgachah pratis<\/em>, Divine Providence, in our times, and even suggested keeping a notebook with daily\u00a0<em>hashgachah<\/em>\u00a0that we see in our own daily lives.\u00a0 When we are able to feel the presence of Hashem in our daily lives in the \u201csmall stuff,\u201d we will grow closer to Hashem in a greater and more steady manner than hearing someone else\u2019s story.\u00a0 Some write in a notebook and periodically review the notebook themselves, and share some entries with their families at special occasions such as on a Yom Tov or even at the Shabbos table.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart and core of Pesach are emunah in\u00a0<em>hashgachah pratis<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>hodaah<\/em>\u00a0(gratitude).\u00a0 A discussion of commitment of some kind to increase the frequency and intensity of our \u201cPlease\u201d and \u201cThank You\u201d to Hashem would be a most fitting way over Yom Tov, perhaps even at the meal of the Seder, to implement the advice given by the\u00a0<em>g\u2019dolei ha\u2019dor<\/em>.\u00a0 When we ask Hashem for help and are mindful of thanking Him, we will begin to notice the loving Hand of Hashem that has always been with us, but which we may have been too busy to notice.<\/p>\n<p>May we all merit to enjoy a\u00a0<em>Chag Kasher v\u2019Samei\u2019ach<\/em>\u00a0and experience the final redemption this Nisan,\u00a0<em>b\u2019ezras
