color: black;\">We are now within the Three Weeks period prior to Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av.\u00a0 May we see the salvation before this Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">HaRav Yisrael Salant <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">zt\u201dl<\/span><\/em> stated that we can elevate ourselves spiritually on Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av at least as much as we can on Yom Kippur.\u00a0 What did he mean, and what can we do in the coming days to reach that point of spiritual elevation, should we have to sit on the floor for yet another Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">On Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av, we need to have reached the point where we can sit on the floor and cry (with tears or in our hearts) over the loss that occurred almost 2,000 years ago.\u00a0 Which loss? \u00a0The ultimate loss.\u00a0 We refer to the loss of the extreme and palpable closeness to Hashem that we experienced when we had the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 We came to the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em> periodically with the mindset of attaining greater awareness and fear\/awe of Hashem.\u00a0 These visits would provide spiritual fuel until our next visit.\u00a0 The degree of our desire and yearning to feel the presence of Hashem was the determining factor in the degree to which we actually felt the closeness of Hashem.\u00a0 We witnessed daily miracles in the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em>, and it was the place on Earth where our potential for connection with Hashem was greatest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">The challenge is that we never experienced that closeness, so we can\u2019t know what we lost.\u00a0 We can only imagine, based on what <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Chazal<\/span><\/em> tell us.\u00a0 Most of us struggle with that and are far from the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tzadikim<\/span><\/em> who can imagine it vividly.\u00a0 So where does that leave the rest of us?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">The world stands on three pillars: <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Torah<\/span><\/em>, <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Avodah<\/span><\/em>, and <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Chesed<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 Today, our \u201c<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">avodah<\/span><\/em>\u201d is <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilah<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 Let us examine two <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">halachos<\/span><\/em> of <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilah<\/span><\/em> to derive the level of closeness that is possible during our <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shemoneh Esrei<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 First, one may not pass within six-to-eight feet in front of someone <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">davening<\/span><\/em> <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shemoneh Esrei<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 This is because, as we <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">daven<\/span><\/em> <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shemoneh Esrei<\/span><\/em>, we are standing directly before the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Sh\u2019chinah<\/span><\/em> (meaning our connection with Hashem), and that person would be breaking our connection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">The second <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">halachah<\/span><\/em> is that before every <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shemoneh Esrei<\/span><\/em>, we are instructed to imagine that we are traveling to Eretz Yisrael, grabbing a taxi to Yerushalayim, entering the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em>, and then entering into the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Kodesh HaKodashim<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 That is where we are standing while we are in our <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shemoneh Esrei<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 It is from that holiest place on Earth that our <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilos<\/span><\/em>, along with the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilos<\/span><\/em> of every other person who is <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">davening<\/span><\/em>, rise up to <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shamayim<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">These two <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">halachos<\/span><\/em> should infuse us with a sense of awe and an awareness of the great gift and opportunity we have each and every day, though it is but a taste of what we had.\u00a0 We should recognize that our awareness and closeness today is vastly distant from what we had when we could actually enter the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em> (in the parts of the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em> where we were allowed to enter).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">What can we do in these Three Weeks to prepare ourselves to mourn the loss of the extreme degree of closeness to Hashem that we once experienced, and to set ourselves up for the spiritual elevation on Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av that is akin to Yom Kippur, which will come about through our intense desire and yearning for that closeness to Hashem that we lost? \u00a0How can we reach that state of intense yearning and desire to the point that we can cry about it on Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">One <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">avodah<\/span><\/em> we can work on is mindfully observing the two <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">halachos<\/span><\/em> mentioned, and to think about what they mean.\u00a0 Mourn and cry internally over the fact that we may not feel even the closeness that is available to us, and over the fact that we can\u2019t even imagine what once was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">Another <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">avodah<\/span><\/em> that we can embark upon is a special focus on those parts of <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilah<\/span><\/em> that are directly related to preparing for Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av.\u00a0 Some examples include the two <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">brachos<\/span><\/em> immediately preceding <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Shema Koleinu<\/span><\/em> and the one after it, the second paragraph of <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Aleinu<\/span><\/em>, and <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">\u201cAmein, Y\u2019hei Sh\u2019mei Rabba.\u201d<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 Towards that end, we are making some of these <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilah<\/span><\/em> segments available this week, next Sunday, and the Thursday prior to Tish\u2019ah B\u2019Av.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"HE\" style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u05e6\u05b4\u05d9\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05df, \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05e4\u05bc\u05b8\u05d8 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e4\u05bc\u05b8\u05d3\u05b6\u05d4; 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">Tzion shall be redeemed with justice,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: request to see it rebuilt in all its beauty with the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Sh\u2019chinah<\/span><\/em> residing in the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em>, allow us to digress, to address some fundamental questions about our <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilos<\/span><\/em> for the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">g\u2019ulah<\/span><\/em>, our ultimate redemption, may it be soon in our days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">First, if the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilos<\/span><\/em> of the generations of the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Tana\u2019im<\/span><\/em>, <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Amora\u2019im<\/span><\/em>, <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">G\u2019onim<\/span><\/em>, <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Rishonim<\/span><\/em>, and <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Acharonim<\/span><\/em> \u2013 all previous to us \u2013 were insufficient to bring the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">g\u2019ulah<\/span><\/em>, why would we think our <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">t\u2019filos<\/span><\/em> can possibly be effective?\u00a0 Second, do we really believe that <strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">our<\/span><\/strong> <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">tefilos<\/span><\/em> can bring the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">g\u2019ulah<\/span><\/em>?\u00a0 Third, we have been asking for the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">g\u2019ulah<\/span><\/em> for almost 2,000 years unsuccessfully.\u00a0 Am I really accomplishing anything by each day continuously repeating that same request, day after day?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">The answer is \u201cYes, we are\u201d \u2013 we are accomplishing something for ourselves, for the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">klal<\/span><\/em>, and in fact we are hastening the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">g\u2019ulah<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; margin-bottom: style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif;\">Beis HaMikdash<\/span><\/em> and for the swift flowering of salvation and the ingathering of the exiles, attains to the infusion of the Divine spirit
