{"id":28199,"date":"2006-06-30T01:25:00","date_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/production.ou.org\/holidays\/months\/what_are_sin_and_repentance\/"},"modified":"2016-08-12T09:20:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-12T09:20:18","slug":"what_are_sin_and_repentance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/what_are_sin_and_repentance\/","title":{"rendered":"What are Sin and Repentance?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Sin&#8221; or &#8220;Chet&#8221; in Hebrew, means &#8220;failure in our relationship with HaShem (G-d).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Our goal should be to continually move closer to G-d, But &#8220;chet&#8221; is behavior which causes us to move away from G-d.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Repentance&#8221; or &#8220;Teshuvah&#8221; in Hebrew, means &#8220;Return.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In this context, it means &#8220;Return to G-d&#8221; and to behavior required of us by G-d.<\/p>\n<p>While we deeply regret our movement away from G-d, we should not despair.
