{"id":27651,"date":"2011-07-18T23:36:10","date_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/production.ou.org\/holidays\/the-three-weeks\/the_love_story_a_tragedy_with_a_happy_ending\/"},"modified":"2020-09-08T11:54:03","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T11:54:03","slug":"the_love_story_a_tragedy_with_a_happy_ending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/the_love_story_a_tragedy_with_a_happy_ending\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Love Story,&#8221; A Tragedy with a Happy Ending!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One way of looking at <strong>Jewish History<\/strong> is that it is a &#8220;love story,&#8221; where the &#8220;main characters&#8221; are <a title=\"HaShem\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/judaism-101\/glossary\/#H\">HaShem<\/a> and the Jewish People (in fact, that is the theme of &#8220;<a title=\"Shir HaShirim\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/shir_hashirim_the_song_of_songs\/\">Shir HaShirim<\/a>,&#8221; the Song of Songs). The following is a micro-micro-miniature version of the same theme. There are moments of great closeness, and there are dark moments when it seems as if there has been (G-d Forbid) a permanent divorce between the parties.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Ketuva,&#8221; or marriage contract, is the Torah, and the &#8220;Kesef Kiddushin,&#8221; the object of value by which the &#8220;Chatan&#8221; acquires His &#8220;Kallah,&#8221; frequently a gold ring, is the &#8220;<a title=\"Beit HaMikdash\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/judaism-101\/glossary\/#B\">Beit HaMikdash<\/a>,&#8221; the Holy Temple. There were times that the Jewish People would not let go of their &#8220;Ketuva&#8221; on pain of death, and then she always wore and cherished the &#8220;ring&#8221; given to her by HaShem. But there were other times that she forgot about the &#8220;Ketuva,&#8221; and neglected and ultimately lost her &#8220;ring.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The periods of special closeness, when the Divine Presence was (or in one case, will be) clear to all upon and among the Jewish People, are the following:<\/p>\n<p>The times of the &#8220;Avot,&#8221; the Founding Fathers and the &#8220;Imahot,&#8221; the Founding Mothers, of the Jewish People<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/the_times_of_the_mishkan_in_the_wilderness\/\">The period of the &#8220;Mishkan&#8221;<\/a> in the Wilderness<br \/>\n<a title=\"The attempt by David HaMelech\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/the_attempt_by_david_hamelech_to_build_a_temple\/\">The attempt by David HaMelech<\/a> to build a Temple<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/the_first_beit_hamikdash_-_the_temple_of_shlomo\/\">The period of the First &#8220;Beit HaMikdash,&#8221;<\/a> the Holy Temple<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/the_second_beit_hamikdash_holy_temple\/\">The period of the Second &#8220;Beit HaMikdash,&#8221; <\/a> the Holy Temple<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/the_third_beit_hamikdash_holy_temple_in_yerushalayim\/\">The period of the Third &#8220;Beit HaMikdash,&#8221;<\/a> the Holy Temple<\/p>\n<p>On <a title=\"Tisha B&#039;Av\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/holidays\/category\/fast-of-tisha-bav\/\">Tisha B&#8217;Av<\/a>, we express the hope that the &#8220;Mashiach,&#8221; who, according to Jewish Tradition, will be born on Tisha B&#8217;Av, is indeed already in the world and that the next Tisha B&#8217;Av will be celebrated as a joyous &#8220;Moed&#8221; in Yerushalayim, in the courtyards of the Third Beit HaMikdash.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One way of looking at Jewish History is that it is a &#8220;love story,&#8221; where the &#8220;main characters&#8221; are HaShem and the Jewish People (in fact, that is the theme of &#8220;Shir HaShirim,&#8221; the Song of Songs).
