The minhag was that everybody fasted on Erev Rosh Hashana and to wake up early before dawn to daven selichot. Why? If someone does teshuva one day a year it’s as if he did Teshuva the whole year. Why specifically on Erev Rosh Hashana? Is it merely because it’s the last day of the year?
