Thank you for helping those in need in Florida
The leadership of Achiezer, the Agudath Israel of America, Amudim, Chai Lifeline, Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services, the Rabbinical Council of America, and the Orthodox Union express our deep gratitude for the outpouring of concern, prayers and funds for those impacted by Hurricane Irma.
Our joint efforts have concentrated on making certain that those without electricity had access to necessary food supplies. In consultation with our partners in Florida, it is our assessment that the funds raised to date are sufficient to carry out these efforts. We are thankful to all those who donated, prayed and offered to volunteer and we will continue to monitor this situation and alert you should additional critical assistance be required.
Further, the impact of trauma is affecting many in the community. Teams of mental health professional from OHEL Children’s Home and Family Services and Chai Lifeline are available to provide direct consultation, phone conferencing and guideline materials for rabbis, parents, schools and synagogues.

We remain deeply concerned about the broader Florida community and ask that you consider contributing to the Red Cross.
Lastly, please keep the communities of Houston in the forefront of your thoughts as they continue their rebuilding efforts following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey floodwaters. We have seen tremendous support for those in need and we hope you can continue to extend your generosity – you can help the people of Houston here.
As we approach Rosh HaShanah, it is our sincere hope that we will all be blessed with a sweet, safe and happy New Year.
