DESCRIPTION:Elder Fraud Scams: Awareness and Avoidance \nThe law enforcement community has seen a steady increase in both the number of scams targeting seniors\, as well as the loss amounts to victims. Education and awareness are vital tools in helping seniors avoid becoming victims. Our presentation is designed to give current information on common scams happening in the community and how to recognize them before becoming a victim. It will include: \n\nCurrent scams and variations\nKey elements to a successful scam\nRed flags and warning signs\nHow to avoid becoming a victim\nWhat to do if you believe you may be a victim\n\n\nPresented by: Christine Burke\, Assistant District Attorney\, Section Chief of the Elder Fraud Unit\, Queens District Attorney’s office \nChristine Burke is the Section Chief of the Elder Fraud Unit\, within the Frauds Bureau. She has been a prosecutor for 28 years\, all but 8 of them have been served in the Queens District Attorney’s Office.  Christine investigates and prosecute individuals who target older adults as victims of crimes\, predominantly crimes perpetrated in the form of scams and/or frauds. \nChristine Burke is a member of the Queens Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team of the NYC Elder Abuse Center of Weill-Cornell Medicine\, wherein a group of professionals from various areas of expertise come together twice per month to discuss complex situations involving abuse and exploitation of older adults. \nREGISTER FOR THE PROGRAM HERE \n__________________________________________________________ \nWe have created a new SPIRIT website with archives and upcoming programs! DESCRIPTION:Actively Engaging Women at the Orthodox Union – from Women’s Branch to the Women’s Initiative \nJoin us for a fascinating dialogue with Rebbetzin Dr. Adina Shmidman and Mrs. Nancy Klein \n  \nRebbetzin Dr. Adina Shmidman is a dynamic community leader and teacher for more than two decades in New York\, Alabama\, and Pennsylvania. She received a doctorate in Educational Psychology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.  Dr. Shmidman serves as the founding director of OU Women’s Initiative as well as the rebbetzin of the Lower Merion Synagogue of Bala Cynwyd\, PA. She and her husband are the proud parents of four sons. \n  \nMrs. Nancy Klein served as president of the Women’s Branch of the Orthodox Union and later as  Administrator\, writing programming for its Sisterhoods.  She is the daughter of Elizbeth Klein Isaacs\, Dean of Students at Stern in its early years\, and Moses L. Isaacs\, who was the Dean of Yeshiva College for many years. Mrs. Klein is a graduate of Barnard College and has been a “professional volunteer” for most of her life.  She and her husband\,  Sidney a”h\, have three sons\, and a daughter\, 19 grandchildren\, and\, at last count\, more than 60 great-grandchildren.
