DESCRIPTION:Hear the story of how one family’s advocacy saved a wife\, Mom and Bubby after a stroke\, and how to advocate for your loved ones or yourself. \n\nPresented by: Mimi Jankovits and Maya Joyandeh \nMimi Jankovits is the National Director of Grassroots for Teach Coalition\, a project of the OU.  After her Mom had a stroke in June 2020\, Mimi and her brothers found themselves advocating for their Mom in the face of Covid hospital restrictions and a culture that believed a 90 year old woman could not recover. \nMaya Joyandeh is a licensed medical social worker\, who has 10 years of experience working in hospitals\, nursing homes\, hospice residences and in the home-care setting. She earned her MSW from NYU\, with a focus on the geriatric and medically-compromised population. Join us for an engaging Torah-source based class on anger management and the opportunity it may offer. \nPresented by: Rabbi Dr. Josh Joseph\, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Orthodox Union \nRabbi Dr. Josh Joseph is the Orthodox Union’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since September of 2020.  He is the senior professional leader\, responsible for all aspects of OU programs and operations\, other than OU Kosher.  He joined the OU from Yeshiva University where he served in a variety of roles over 16 years\, ultimately rising to senior vice president. A native of Montreal\, Josh received both his Ed.D. and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his rabbinical ordination from Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary\, as well as a Master of Arts in Jewish philosophy from their Bernard Revel Graduate School. DESCRIPTION:  \n\nHow do I know if a loved one is struggling with substance use or addiction\, and what can I do about it?\nHow can I offer support to that person or my extended family?\nWhat should I do (or not do) when dealing with addiction?\nHow do I know if I am struggling with substance use?\n\nThis workshop will address these questions and more. We will discuss recognizing the signs and symptoms of substance misuse\, current drug trends\, understanding your role in supporting family members\, the rising occurrence of misuse of pain medications\, how you can get help\, and other critical issues. \nPresented by: Lianne Forman\, Executive Director of Communities Confronting Substance Use & Addiction\, and Sharon Darack\, Associate Director of Communities Confronting Substance Use & Addiction \nLianne Forman\, a 29+ year Teaneck resident and a corporate and employment lawyer by training\, is the Executive Director of Communities Confronting Substance Use & Addiction (CCSA)\, the organization she and her husband\, Etiel\, founded in 2018. Through their own family’s struggles\, they founded CCSA to create greater community awareness and education about substance misuse and addiction in the Jewish community. CCSA’s mission is to eliminate stigma around addiction in Jewish communities through awareness events and facilitating evidence-based educational programming in schools for students and parents.
