It is the ideal framework for developing many of the qualities that researchers have found to characterize strong and healthy families.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">R<\/span>epresent the importance of Shabbat rituals, traditions and learning which enhances &#8216;spiritual wellness&#8217; and religious identity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/beeswax.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-post-2560 wp-image-2563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/beeswax-300x49.jpg\" alt=\"beeswax\" width=\"300\" height=\"49\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/beeswax-300x49.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/beeswax.jpg 353w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><i>This project can be done by children of any age with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">adult supervision<\/span>. Experiment with different colors of beeswax!<br \/>\nIf you twist or braid three candles together it makes an excellent <strong>Havdallah Candle<\/strong>!<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p>What You Need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">C<\/span>olored sheets of beeswax (available at craft stores, art stores, and teacher supply stores)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">W<\/span>icking, in cut lengths or in a roll.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">W<\/span>ax paper or brown paper<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">M<\/span>asking tape<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">S<\/span>cissors or Utility Knife (use with adult present or with adult participation)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">A<\/span> clean, flat work surface<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">1.<\/span> Lay wax paper or brown paper on your work surface and tape down with masking tape. This will keep the wax from getting all over your table.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">2.<\/span> Decide how tall you want your candles to be. Cut a rectangle from beeswax sheet to that height and wide enough to roll at least three or four times.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">3.<\/span> Lay a piece of wick down at the end of the rectangle, parallel to the edge. Make sure it sticks out on one side&#8211;this will be the top, the part you light. Starting from the wick end, roll up the beeswax, keeping even pressure on the whole thing. Roll it about three or four times, until it becomes the thickness you like.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">4.<\/span> When it is the desired thickness, cut off the extra and use your fingers to gently press on the cut edge so that it is even.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">5.<\/span> Prepare \u00a0two more candles and tie them together with a beeswax &#8216;ribbon&#8217;&#8211;squeezing the top so the flames will touch when lit. Or, braid the three candles together.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/sachet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-post-2560 wp-image-2564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/sachet-300x34.jpg\" alt=\"sachet\" width=\"300\" height=\"34\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/sachet-300x34.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/sachet.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">\u00a0<em>Cloves and cinnamon sticks are two traditional Ashkenazic spices that are long-lasting, easy to find, easy to store, and blend with another beautifully. Perfect for Havdallah!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>What You Need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">T<\/span>ulle circles, available in the wedding aisle of a party\/craft store. Or, buy tulle by the yard and have big kids cut it into 8 in. squares<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">W<\/span>hole cloves and cinnamon sticks<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">R<\/span>ubber bands<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">C<\/span>olorful ribbons<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">S<\/span>cissors<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">H<\/span>ammer (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">1.<\/span>\u00a0Break cinnamon sticks with a hammer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">2.<\/span>\u00a0Place a teaspoon or two of the spices in the middle of the tulle circle.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">3.<\/span>\u00a0Raise edges of tulle with fingers and twist shut.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">4.<\/span>\u00a0Wrap a rubber band around the twist.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">5.<\/span>\u00a0Cut a length of ribbon and tie it over the rubber band.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em style=\"color: #008080;\">Is your synagogue\/ community hosting a Motzaei Shabbat\u00a0Activity?
