Each of the options below can be specifically tailored to your community or family!<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-post-2517 wp-image-2522 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah.jpg\" alt=\"challah\" width=\"407\" height=\"49\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah.jpg 407w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah-300x36.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here\u00a0are two recipes to try and some helpful challah baking tips from the pros!<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-post-2517 wp-image-2529 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org:443\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah2.jpg\" alt=\"challah2\" width=\"386\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah2.jpg 386w, https:\/\/www.ou.org\/community\/files\/2014\/07\/challah2-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>BASIC CHALLAH RECIPE<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nMakes approximately 4 loaves<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 packages dry yeast<\/li>\n<li>3 \u00bd Cups warm water<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd cup sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 \u00bc teaspoons salt<\/li>\n<li>13-14 cups flour<\/li>\n<li>5 eggs, beaten<\/li>\n<li>1 egg<\/li>\n<li>1 Cup vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>Poppy or sesame seeds (optional)<\/li>\n<li>1 beaten egg for egg wash<\/li>\n<li>Add a teaspoon of honey for asweet touch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\">1.\u00a0<\/span>In a large bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water and let sit\u00a0until it dissolves.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #008080;\">2.\u00a0<\/span>Add sugar, salt and half the flour. The water should be tepid. If it feels like the same temperature as your skin, it\u2019s fine.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Try<\/strong> <\/span>substituting a cup of honey for the sugar.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Add<\/strong> <\/span>a few drops of yellow food coloring to the liquid ingredients for a richer, \u2018eggier\u2019 look without the cholesterol.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Don\u2019t<\/strong> <\/span>skimp on the salt called for in the recipe. Along with the yeast, sugar and water, it\u2019s an important part of the chemical process that allows the dough to rise properly.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Don\u2019t<\/strong> <\/span>rush the rising process. The first rising takes longer than the second; cover your dough with a thick cotton napkin or towel, and place in a warm location. A sunny window, warm hearth, or stovetop is a good choice. Or heat your oven and turn off, then place your bowl in the still-warm oven with the door open.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>To<\/strong> <strong>freeze<\/strong>,<\/span> pop hot challahs into paper bags. Put the paper bags into plastic freezer bags and twist tie.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>To thaw<\/strong><\/span> challahs, remove from bags.
