Rabbi Avraham Shmidman attended Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh for two years before proceeding to Yeshiva College where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in political science. Rabbi Shmidman received rabbinic ordination (semicha) from The Chief Rabbinate of Montreal and the Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological Seminary (RIETS). While attending Yeshiva University he served as Editor-in-Chief of Beis Yitzchok, the annual Torah journal of RIETS, and co-edited a special memorial volume in memory of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik entitled Zichron HaRav. Rabbi Shmidman was a member of the administration and faculty at YU’s boys high school, The Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy. In addition to filling such posts as Director of Admissions and Residence Hall Director he also taught an array of Judaic studies classes, including Gemara, Chumash and Navi. Rabbi Shmidman assumed his first full-time rabbinic post in Birmingham, Alabama. During his nine-year stint there he succeeded in building an entirely new shul and mikvah. For the past eleven and a half years he has occupied the position of spiritual leader of Lower Merion Synagogue, the largest Orthodox synagogue in The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Rebbitzen Dr. Adina Shmidman and their four boys live in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
