Start 5777 with A Daf a Week!

OU Torah and the OU Department of Synagogue and Community Services are joining together with Daf Hashovua, AKA Daf-A-Week, to present Daf HaShavua.

Now, don’t get us wrong, we love Daf Yomi. The OU hosts a number of shiurim promoting and facilitating the study of the daily daf. But Daf HaShavua is a different model. Get ready to complete a masechta this year with a new level of comprehension!

Daf HaShavua is already being followed by thousands of participants in more than 20 cities worldwide, who study one daf of gemara a week with a focus on continuous review and retention. By offering Daf HaShavua, OU Torah and Synagogue and Community Services hope to introduce new audiences to this effective Torah-study methodology.

The OU joins Daf HaShavua with tractate Beitza, which officially begins on Sunday, October 16, 2016 (you can hear the first shiur here);  the tractate will conclude in nine months, on July 15, 2017! Rabbi Larry Rothwachs, senior rabbi at Congregation Beth Aaron in Teaneck, NJ, and director of professional rabbinics at Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, will serve as maggid shiur.

While individuals can certainly study Daf HaShavua on their own, we encourage shuls to create small groups led by their rabbi or a learned layperson. For more information or to start a Daf HaShavua chaburah in your shul, email Rabbi Avi Heller, the OU’s Regional Director for Synagogues, New Jersey and Rockland County, at hellera@ou.org.

Follow Daf HaShavua on OU Torah or by using the OU Torah app for Android devices or iOS devices!

*Yes, we know we already have a series called Daf HaShavua in Yiddish, featuring the shiurim of Rav Pinchas M. Teitz ztz”l. That’s okay; we have more than one series called “Daf Yomi!”
