A rocket from Gaza hit central Israel on Monday, leading the Israeli air force to launch an offensive against Hamas targets.
Seven people were wounded after a house north of Tel Aviv was hit by a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip. The attack prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cut short his visit to Washington and return to Israel.
Cities near the Gaza border and in central and northern Israel opened bomb shelters in preparation for responses to the offensive.
