Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt Refuse Clause Prohibiting Normalization with Israel

Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt have rejected a statement by the Union of Arab Parliaments calling for an end to normalization with Israel.

Marzouq Al-Ghanim, speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, suggested that the final statement of their 29th meeting include a recommendation to stop normalizing ties with Israel. Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council Abdullah Al-Sheikh objected to the statement on the grounds that “[c]alls for stopping normalization with Israel is the authority of politicians not the parliamentarians.”

A number of Arab countries have developed relations with Israel, including Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE; Jordan and Egypt have had official relations with Israel for decades.
